Is the "Keep Christ in Christmas" movement really a little unchristian?

I know this is old and no one will probably read this but I appreciate those that will. As an atheist who loves the secular celebration of Christmas I love this post and I think your wife has a really great outlook on the holiday. Since my family is Catholic and my Grandmother is very Catholic and lives with us my family celebrated Christmas each year and I loved it and then I stopped believing in God and I found I still loved the holiday because for me it was all about family being together and having a good time and just being generally nice to people. However I do find it off-putting to hear people tell me that I shouldn’t celebrate the holiday without the religious side in fact when I told someone I know about how I celebrated Christmas they literally looked quite shocked and couldn’t believe an atheist celebrated Christmas. Anyway my point is Christmas isn’t just a religious holiday and I appreciate your wife’s outlook on it and despite being a little late I would like to say Merry Christmas.

Looking back on my life, putting Chirst back into Christmas hasn’t really done a thing for me personally.
It is a nice saying, but to me quite ineffective. I can not remember doing one thing to put Christ back into Christmas because of this slogan.

I wouldn’t say it was wrong to have such a slogan back in the 40’s - 80’s. But recently I wonder. Because the Pope himself said that we must respect all people of all religions since God himself respects their right of choice.

I believe we are living in different times in USA. How would it affect me to hear … put Budda into Christmas, or put Mohammed into Christmas. My neighbor next door actually has a big Budda in her backyard.
I would feel a bit awkward to hear those slogans. Times have changed and we must respect others.

Besides there are people now as never before who don’t know who Christ is, so having a slogan dosen’t reach those who need him the most.

Maybe it might be better to say, put God back into Christmas. But even then some would feel … offended.

I believe God said it best when he said to use love … not force. Maybe a sign which said, “From all of us Christians to all of you, may God bless you at this time.” I believe that is kinda what the angels said. And wouldn’t that be putting the spirit of Christ back into Christmas?
