It can be. It’s like making dinner. I love to cook, so most days, I really enjoy throwing together a meal and getting to be creative. Other nights, I’m tired and cranky, so spending another hour on my feet making a home cooked meal for my husband instead of ordering Chinese food is a sacrifice.
Most nights, my husband and I both love having sex. But there are occasional nights where I’m tired or moody, but he really wants it. So I make the sacrifice of putting my issues aside and doing my best to get into it. There are some nights where he has to do the same for me because he’s the one that’s tired.
The sacrifice comes in committing to marriage. Part of marriage is doing your best to fulfill your spouse’s sexual needs, and in getting married you are agreeing to do so. Just making that lifelong commitment is a sacrifice. But when you’re talking about marriage or raising children, virtually everything involves self-sacrifice. That doesn’t make it a bad thing. Quite the contrary, it makes it meaningful and special.
