Is the material world evil (and the spiritual world good)?

If it is not evil, then why isn’t it?

No. It is good, because it was created by Goodness Himself.

Evil is a perversion, distortion, misuse of created good.

No. There are evils in the spiritual realm too.

Consider also that God took on human flesh and lived in the material world. In so doing, it seems to me that he confirmed the fundamental goodness of humanity and the material world.

No, the material world is not evil. That is part of the Albigensian heresy, which was common a long time ago around the time of St. Dominic. In fact, that is Ike of the reasons why Our Lady gave us the Rosary; to defeat the Albigensian heresy.

The material world is not evil, because God created all material things, and God can do no evil.

“God saw all the things that He had made, and they were very good” ( Genesis 1:31).
Does that include the fallen angles? They were created before the humans, animals, etc.

God created the world and He called it good. Who am I to argue with God?

People have free will, we often use that free will to do evil.

When they were created, they were good.

They were given a choice (they had a one time chance at free will) and they chose to rebel against God. After that rebellion, the will of all the Angels was fixed. The are not like us, the fallen angels can never repent and the good angels can never fall (regardless what Hollywood tells us!)

Yes, although purely spiritual beings, they were given a state of grace which some lost through free will choice.
