Is the movie The Exorcist possessed?

I have heard rumors in internetland that the movie the Exorcist is itself possessed. I have a copy of the bluray version of the movie stored in the cabinet of my parents guest room. Some strange things have been happening in that room. For example the smoke alarm in that room kept going off in the middle of the night when there was no smoke present. We had to disconnect and remove it. I also hear creaking noises at night. I have sprinkled holy water throughout the house as a precaution. Should I get rid of it? And how should I get rid of it?

There are also other suspect items in the house like a cheese plate that has ouija board symbols on it (it’s not a real ouija board just a Halloween decoration) that is stored in the attic.

Perhaps I’m just scaring myself but I am serious in the post.
 
I have done wide reading in this area, and I never heard of such a thing as a movie or a book universally possessed. However, any object could have been involved in acts of witchcraft, and if there is any question you ought to get rid of it.

The chief exorcist of the Diocese of Rome, Gabriele Amorth, in his best-known book on exorcism, says to burn such objects. He also suggests first sprinkling it with holy water (the individual himself can do this, he says) and burning it out in the open while praying, and throwing the ashes into running water. Items that cannot be burned, he says, should be thrown into running water, either a river or the sewer. He says that by cursed objects, Satan apes God. The sacraments use tangible things to give grace; Satan by cursed objects uses tangible things to do evil. (in Gabriele Amorth, “An Exorcist Tells His Story,” pp. 138. 132).
 
Go to Snopes with that one…I’m pretty sure it’s just a movie!
 
Man, it sure is a very scary movie but i have never heard of possessed dvd’s

Don’t go down the road of thinking that objects are possessed. The paranoia will make you ill. Ignore the creaking floorboards. If you don’t, you might inadvertently open yourself up to either mental illness or actual possession.
 
The movie is not possessed.

And to be honest, the demonic parts of it didn’t scare me half as bad as the very sad scenes about Father Karras not being able to go take care of his dying mom. That poor man.
 
I hate to admit it, but the whole idea of that movie scares the corn flakes out of me, I’ve never watched it !

BTW Snopes has nothing on it! Go pop some more corn for the exorcist II…I think there was one…

I agree with tthis. Just throw this stuff out in the garbage if you are concerned. DVD’s and objects are not possessed.
 
You’re right guys. Thinking about this too much just opens the door to paranoia. I’m honestly not that bothered by this.

Funny story: my friend who is an ATHEIST wanted to go to mass after seeing the movie.

Love of God comes later. Getting someone in the church door who has not been there for a while is a good first step.

Unless you think someone should have stood outside the churches saying, “Are you coming in because you love God or because you are scared of the devil? If it’s the latter, go away and don’t come back till you’re acting out of love of God.”
 
Isn’t “The Exorcist” regarded as, well, a black comedy - a camp classic - on par with “Mommie Dearest” these days?

I can’t say I ever found it to be scary - what’s so scary about a little girl spitting pea soup?
