This was as far as I read before I encountered an inaccuracy. You are perhaps a young student, but in 1983 suicide bombers detonated a truck bomb outside US marine barracks in Beirut. The group responsible was called “islamic jihad” *(I wonder why didn’t they realize jihad had nothing to do with suicide bombing when they named their group?) *and was probably Hezbollah-sponsored.

I’m not claiming that that was even the first suicide bomb, but it was a well-known incident and occurred long before 1994.

The truck and car-bomb, by the way, has been an islamic-terrorist speciality. Kind of makes you wonder where McVeigh got his inspiration?
who gave them this name ?
from wikipedia it was mentioned
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Islamic_Jihad_Organization

Initially the group was described as “a mysterious group about which virtually nothing was known,”[1] one whose “only members” seemed to be the “anonymous callers” taking credit for the bombings, or one that simply didn’t exist. After the MNF bombing, the New York Times reported that “Lebanese police sources, Western intelligence sources, Israeli Government sources and leading Shi’ite Moslem religious leaders in Beirut are all convinced that there is no such thing as Islamic Jihad,”** as an organization, no membership, no writings, etc**.

[2] Journalist Robin Wright has described it as “more of an information network for a variety of cells of movements”, rather than a centralized organization.[3] Not all of IJ’s claims of responsibility were credible, as “in some cases, the callers seemed to be exploiting the activities of groups that had no apparent ties to Islamic Jihad,” while working with some success to create “an aura of a single omnipotent force in the region.”[4]

as an answering for your question

i find the answer of your question in wikipedia either
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Timothy_McVeigh

McVeigh frequently quoted and alluded to the white supremacist novel The Turner Diaries. It described acts of terrorism similar to the one he carried out. While McVeigh openly rejected the book’s racism (a roommate said that McVeigh was not a racist and was basically indifferent to racist matters),[30] he claimed to appreciate its interest in firearms. Photocopies of pages sixty-one and sixty-two of The Turner Diaries were found in an envelope inside McVeigh’s car. These pages depicted a fictitious mortar attack upon the U.S. Capitol in Washington.[86]

just a simple question
the target in this event was military targets , it was US marine barracks exists in arab country , why you considered it acts of terrorism while the target wasn’t civilians ?
i think again that we need to think about common definations for the terrorism we are talking about

Quranic verses can be applied when similar situation happen. Sure, that may not mean to kill all ‘idolaters’ but when similar situation happen today to the Muslims world, their ‘righteous’ plan of action would be no doubt to do what Mohammad would have done. To make matter worse, there is no central authority to make a ruling thus any Imams can interpret the Quran as how they see fit. And who can stop them for doing what they think is right?
we should then examine the mainstream of muslim’s openion in the world

do you know what is the view of mainstream of muslims in the world toward the interpretation of quran regarding terrorism issue ?

I was quite shock that you should deny the incidence where Mohammad caused a poet to be killed because he (the poet) has written a poem that was insulting to him. My apology if you really do not know about this.
There are many stories of the polar opposite, such as the example below, so since you have no reference and its completely against his whole life’s work, you’ve just made it up. It’s fine for you to believe Islam is not the truth otherwise you wouldn’t be Catholic - although it is done respectfully in official documents like Nostra Aetate which will bring endearment and peace - but to just bare face lie is an outrage!

No greater illustration of The Prophet’s (pbuh) character can be given than the story of his expulsion from the city of Ta’if, after the arrogant leaders of that town unleashed the fools, slaves, and children against him. In the aftermath of that onslaught, the Prophet, peace and blessings of God upon him, humbly raised his hands towards the sky and prayed:
O, God! Unto you alone do I plead my lack of strength, the paucity of my efforts, and my humiliation before the people. O, the Most Merciful of all! You are the Lord of the oppressed, you are my Lord. Unto who have you dispatched me? To a distant host who receives me repugnantly? Or to an enemy you have authorized over my affair? If you are not angry with me, I care not. It is only your goodness I seek to be covered with. I seek refuge with the Light of your Face, through which the darkness is illuminated and all the affairs of the world and hereafter are rectified, that you do not cast your anger down on me, nor cause your wrath to settle upon me. There is neither strength, nor power but with You [Fiqh as-Sirah R. Al Buti]

You admitted yourself that Islam has no central authority.

What is mainstream? Is it the majority or is it the truth and right? For those who are not in the ‘mainstream’ they can always say that their belief is as valid as yours.

It is easy to say the other fella lies and end the argument. How do you know that yours is authentic and mine is not; after all both of us are quoting something? You cite Mohammad’s reaction that makes him seen in a good light does not make him did not do otherwise given the situation for him to do so.

I gave you the reference for the murder of Kab b. al-Ashraf, the Jewish poet. Rather than denying its existence the least you could do is to make your research. You are telling me that it did not exist at all and that I am telling a lie as if it is my story and I made it up.

Resent history tells us Catholics knew how to kill people with Car bombs, (Irish Catholics) I remember a bomb going of in Enniskillen, Northern Ireland, because I was there watching people praying for soldiers who had died defending the British Empire, the smell of human blood was over powering,
More often than not anti-Muslim threads are started by Zionists , cant say much about them, they are a protected species. I read on a news service from Australia about the Leader of the opposition in Government Tony Abbott who is a practicing Catholic. in a speech about Afghanistan he said " Islam was Evil" it is he who is evil,
I have read the life story of Mohammad he was a good man. I know many Muslims and they are all good people, many Jews are behind the hatred of Muslims
.The IRA were said to be freedom fighters, they were called terrorists by those people who had stolen their land, the Palestinians are being kicked out of their homes and off their land as I write, so why are they denied any support.— they are being terrorized

if every group believe he have the truth , then "mainstream " refered to the truth which is believed by the majority 🙂

the truth are determined by your own decesion which is depend on many aspects as honesty , knowledge and intelligence

If your Catholic, then I’m a monkeys uncle. I would like you to quote the reference where Tony Abbott said that, after all I’m an Aussie and would remember a remark like that. Also show us your so called proof for blaming the Jews,

Like I said you make a lie and there is no case of a poet being put to death for simply saying nasty things about the Prophet (pbuh). However, there is an example of a Jewish poet who committed treason, which is the one you are mentioning. You clearly have no desire to know about Islam or bring about mutual understanding as your Church is suggesting. It is a shame and a waste of all of our time, so I will no longer talk to you

So, if I read you a poem and you didn’t like it, would you have me killed?

Fine. Even if it was treason, the method of the killing was dubious for an honorable prophet. At least you admitted the killing. Obviously that killing was meant for a purpose - to intimidate the entire Jewish population of Medina. Today we call that terrorism.

Is it any real difference when a traitor in Palestine or Iraq is being lynched in public or brutally killed?

As for whether it was treason or simply an elimination of a person that Mohammad did not like, that is debatable.

And just like any small kids, we will not talk to each other simply because it has become too tiresome to answer some questions! As I said it is too easy to brush off an opponent that does not share the same thought as us.

Reading Norman Finkelstein’s book on the Israel-Palestine conflict would concur. I also experienced first hand IRA ‘terrorism’ growing up in Aldershot (the home of the British army). It is a fair comparison, should us Brits have never gone into Eire and unforgivably oppress the people there then we would never have suffered the consequences of their reaction.

I think the other poster did make a good point, that you need to explain: ‘many Jews are behind the hatred of Muslims.’ Perhaps ‘many Zionists’ is what you meant?
