Im in the process of building a website for the purpose of fund raising for schools, churches of all faiths, rehabs, animal welfare… evrything and all I can help.

I have come up with a name. I cant tell you the entire name as i dont want to let the cat out of the bag as to the content of my website. However, Pandora is the first word.

Just to note, I have read a little about her and it was Zeus that put the evil into the box she opened.

What are your thoughts? Is the very mention of Pandora an offensive act?

Would love to hear from you

Paul

I don’t think so. There’s an online radio station called Pandora, and it doesn’t seem like anyone is offended by the name.

Thats great news. Hope to hear more like that but I am certainly open for other opions. Love the quote by the way.

I see nothing wrong with it. She’s just a character from classic Mythology. If you called it something like Satan on the other hand, then you’ll find people who are offended.

Since “Phaedra” is also a name from an old tale, I could be biased ;), but “Pandora” is just a name from old mythology. And she wasn’t evil–she was tricked! 🙂 The moral of her story is that “Hope” remained.

The only thing I see wrong with Pandora is that the story is used in contemporary cliche to refer to a course of action that could cause all sorts of unintended and intractable problems. It’s not the most optimistic name I could think of. On the other hand, after letting all the world’s problems loose, Pandora had one remaining solace: There was still Hope. So maybe its not so bad, as stories go, after all.

While names like Satan and Lucifer are yet to lose their evil connotations. The name Pandora pretty much has joined the ranks of those like Xerox; people don’t really care for its origins or original meaning anymore. I say feel free to use it.
