So sometimes in my discussions with protestants, I’m told that their position is that the New Testament eclipses the Old Testament, so I am guessing that they tend to regard the Old Testament as like a History book or something because if Protestant theology places so much emphasis on Sola Fida, then morality is like an incidental spin-off their faith and also the fact that so much of Protestant theology is based on the teachings of St Paul. Protestant theology seems to have emphasis in different areas compared to Catholicism.
So my question is, with all this in mind, what is the catholic position in regard to the relationship of the Old Testament morality with the New Testament morality or teachings? Does catholic theology see a conflict between the OT and the NT like the Protestants do? Do we place equal emphasis on all sections of the Bible? Because when you compare it to Protestantism, they view the bible like a linear narrative of replacement and overriding of the old with the new?
