Is The Pill allowable for health reasons?

My wife and I both consider ourselves to be strong Catholics. We know the teaching about birth control. However, my wife has very irregular periods with very heavy bleeding. She has been prescribed a birth control pill to remedy this and it works. She is always regular and in considerable less pain than without the pill. Are we sinning by having sex while she is on the pill?
