Is the pope God on earth?

I am seeking knowledge and wishing to become a Catholic, but my unbelieving husband has told me that Catholics believe the Pope is God on earth. Is this true. Please this is a serious question. I need help and prayer.

Good heavens no! The pope is Christ’s vicar on earth, but is only a human being. Vicar here, means representative.
