Should the Holy Father *not *support the celebration of the current Missal??

It is the ordinary form, after all…

Doesn’t really matter in the long run, although it would be nice if he did celebrate the EF.

As long as he doesn’t incorporate the…ahem…liturgical practices permitted in a certain archdiocese in California, then it doesn’t matter what form he celebrates or doesn’t celebrate.

I agree. I’m sure he wants to be extremely careful not to undercut the ordinary form, and we should all follow that lead.

I believe he has celebrated the Extraordinary Form a few times.
Early on there were some reports that he did so privately that the Vatican felt the need to clarify that these masses were NOT the TLM.

Please remember, everyone, that denigrating any rite of the Catholic Church is not allowed on CAF. Thank you.

I would love to watch Pope Benedict XVI celebrate the Divine Liturgy of St. John Crysostom…

He celebrated it publicly when he was a cardinal, but not since he became pope. Perhaps one day.

The liturgy in the Sistine chapel was magnificent enough, it didn’t need to be EF(I’m referring to the ad orientem NO a while back). If he celebrated them all like that, he would never need to do an EF Mass.

He supports the OF by celebrating it most often with Latin, with Chant, facing the high altar.

He has been shown to be adverse to the innovations most often found in the NO.

He normally celebrated the Mass versus populum

I think he has.
It is the normative form of the Mass. Why wouldn’t he celebrate it? A good shepherd goes out and looks for, and calls to the lost sheep. I’m sure there are plenty of people who would like to go back to the Traditional Latin Mass, women wearing veils, and everything else with no explanation other than “the Church says so”- but that wouldn’t help bring in lost souls who aren’t sure where they belong, or who think they belong in pagan religions or no religion.

The MP, in my opinion shows his support for the EF.

Once could just as well ask why he doesn’t show support for the Armenian, Chaldean, or other Eastern Liturgies by celebrating them.

Remember, he IS the Pope of the WHOLE Church, not just a segment of it which might prefer this or that rite.
