Is the rosary just used for meditation? Can I just use it for prayer?

You can use the beads to pray any kind of prayer, including a whole system you yourself devise. There’s lots of different chaplets that are not necessarily meditative, as the Rosary happens to be.

The Rosary is not just used for meditation. In the Catholic tradition, praying the Rosary invites Our Lady (Mary- Jesus’ mom) to intercede (be of assistance) for us by answering our prayers (in God’s time & in God’s way) while following the teachings in how to pray the Rosary. This type of prayer can be meditative thru personal &/or public praying. It is meant to be intentional and reflective while praying.

No it’s not just for meditation, it’s also a way to pray.

The meditation when you pray the rosary means we think about 5 ‘secrets’, important events in the lives of Jesus and Mary, while we pray.

If you would like to know more about praying the rosary i recommend you to read Secrets of the Rosary by Saint Louis de Montfort.
