I’ve never said one. Have no idea how to so does that mean I’m not a true catholic? Sorry if this sounds like a dumb question.
No, it is not required. It is a private lay devotion. The Church’s official prayer is the Liturgy of the Hours (of which is an extension of the Mass). Even the liturgy of the hours is not required among the laity. Overall though it is good to have a regular prayer devotion and the rosary is a very good one. Its also a whole lot easier to learn than the Liturgy of the Hours. I’d suggest finding one of those little rosary pamphlets at your parish and to pick out a regular part of the day to start the devotion. Go at it slowly.I’ve never said one. prayer is required of all Christians, no it does not have to be the rosary, or any formal prayer for that matter, but we all must pray.I’ve never said one. Have no idea how to so does that mean I’m not a true catholic? Sorry if this sounds like a dumb question.
This article is for you: lifeteen.com/blog/for-people-who-cant-stand-the-rosaryIt’s not required, but many Catholics encourage it. I personally can’t really say it without feeling bored, or falling asleep. I don’t mean it in a bad way of any sort, but the repetition really gets to me.
There are some though like Padre Pio who used to say 30 - 40 rosaries daily![]()
It’s a meditation, hence the repetition. The idea is not to rattle off the Hail Mary so many times that you increase your chances of being heard. The idea is to give yourself a way to meditate with something to help you keep from being distracted. You might consider it the Catholic version of “oommm.” This is not that no one gets distracted while praying the Rosary, but the repeating of a certain number of prayers gives a space of time for meditating on a particular mystery in a gentle way, without an alarm sending you off to the next one and without your brain being so likely to stray off into who-knows-what. The prayers keep bringing your mind back to what you are about. Can anyone explain to me why so many repetitions? I don’t mean to criticize, but whenever I observe most people praying the rosary, it’s like they are at an auction place:
Hailymaryfullofgracelordiswiththeeblessedartthouamongwomenandblessedisthefruitofthywombjesusbreatheholymarymotherofgod…
That 10 times? Firstly, does repetition so many times actually matter in prayer? In the Bible no one appears to do anything like that. I just don’t get repetitive prayers, it doesn’t make any sense to me, so someone pleeeeeeease explain.
Or confirmed! (a small nit, but some of us converts)… If you are baptized then you are fully Catholic.
Yes…Eucharist and confirmation are the sacraments that complete Christian initiation.Or confirmed! (a small nit, but some of us converts)
