Is the Revised Standard Version Second Catholic Edition approved for personal reading/study?
I’ve seen many different takes on this without this question being directly answered. This particular version isn’t directly listed on the USCCB’s list of approved translations but the USCCB also says above the list that
In addition to the translations listed below, any translation of the Sacred Scriptures that has received proper ecclesiastical approval ‒ namely, by the Apostolic See or a local ordinary prior to 1983, or by the Apostolic See or an episcopal conference following 1983 ‒ may be used by the Catholic faithful for private prayer and study.

It is the official version used by the Ordinariates. From what I can gather the Bishops in England and Wales desire it to be used for the lectionary.

Yes it’s approved. The Catechism of the Catholic Church uses the RSV and NRSV!
The info on the first sheet in my CCC includes the following:
Scripture quotations contained herein are adapted from the Revised Standard Version of the Bible, copywright 1946, 1952, 1971, and the New Revised Standard Version of the Bible, copyright 1989, by the Division of Christian Education of the National Council of the Churches of Christ in the United States of America, and are used bby permission. Of course it’s approved for personal use. Scott Hahn and Jimmy Akin use it and it has the Nihil Obstat and Imprimatur in it. You can personally use any Bible that has the Nihil obstat and Imprimatur.

To my knowledge, it’s not approved for public liturgical use in the USA yet, except by the Ordinariate parishes. That just means that parishes other than Ordinariate can’t use it as a lectionary at Mass.
