Is The Sabbatine Privilege true?

I went to my confession and asked the priest to give me the permission to say Rosary instead of the Divine Office. It looks like he is not familiar with the Sabbatine Privelege so I was not able to get his permission. I already observe the other conditions like wearing the Scapular and observe chastity

“The Sabbatine privilege thus consists essentially in the early liberation from purgatory, through the special intercession and petition of Mary, which she graciously exercises in favour of her devoted servants preferentially — as we may assume — on the day consecrated to her, Saturday. Furthermore, the conditions for the gaining of the privilege are of such a kind as justify a special trust in the assistance of Mary. It is especially required of all who wish to share in the privilege that they faithfully preserve their chastity, and recite devoutly each day the Little Hours of the Blessed Virgin. However, all those who are bound to read their Breviary, fulfil the obligation of reciting the Little Hours by reading their Office. Persons who cannot read must (instead of reciting the Little Hours) observe all the fasts prescribed by the Church as they are kept in their home diocese or place of residence, and must in addition abstain from flesh meat on all Wednesdays and Saturdays of the year, except when Christmas falls on one of these days. The obligation to read the Little Hours and to abstain from flesh meat on Wednesday and Saturday may on important grounds be changed for other pious works; the faculty to sanction this change was granted to all confessors by Leo XIII in the Decree of the Congregation of Indulgences of 11 (14) June, 1901.”

It doesn’t seem to appear in the Enchiridion Of Indulgences.

Historical research has shown that the alleged fourteenth-century appearance of the Blessed Mother to Pope John XXII is without historical foundation. As a matter of fact, in the year 1613 the Holy See determined that the decree establishing the “Sabbatine Privilege” was unfounded and the Church admonished the Carmelite Order not to preach this doctrine. Unfortunately, the Order did not always comply with this directive of the Holy See.
At the time the Carmelites were instructed to stop mentioning the “Sabbatine Privilege” the Holy See acknowledged that the faithful may devoutly believe that the Blessed Virgin Mary by her continuous intercession, merciful prayers, merits, and special protection will assist the souls of deceased brothers and sisters and members of the confraternity, especially on Saturday, the day which the church dedicates to the Blessed Virgin.
Consistent with the Catholic tradition, such favors associated with the wearing of the Brown Scapular would be meaningless without the wearers living and dying in the state of grace, observing chastity according to their state in life, and living a life of prayer and penitence. The promises traditionally tied to the scapular offer us what the Second Vatican Council says about the role of the Blessed Virgin Mary: “By her maternal love, Mary cares for the brothers and sisters of her Son, who still make their earthly journey surrounded by dangers and difficulties, until they are led to their happy fatherland.

The Carmelite catechesis is clear: the so-called vision to the Pope is historically suspect.

The Sabbatine Privilege has been downplayed by both the Carmelite orders and the Holy See.

: "The privilege of Pope John XXII, commonly vulgo ] known as the Sabbatine, which was approved and confirmed by Clement VII (“Ex clementi”, 12 August 1530), St. Pius V (“Superna dispositione”, 18 Feb., 1566), Gregory XIII (“Ut laudes”, 18 Sept., 1577), and others, and also by the Holy Roman General Inquisition under Paul V on 20 January, 1613, in a Decree to the following effect:

It is permitted to the Carmelite Fathers to preach that theChristian people may piously believe in the help which thesouls of brothers and members, who have departed this life in charity, have worn in life the scapular, have ever observed chastity, have recited the Little Hours [of the Blessed Virgin], or, if they cannot read, have observed the fast days of the Church, and have abstained from flesh meat on Wednesdays and Saturdays (except when Christmas falls on such days), may derive after death – especially on Saturdays, the day consecrated by the Church to the Blessed Virgin – through the unceasingintercession of Mary, her pious petitions, her merits, and her special protection.
With this explanation and interpretation, the Sabbatine privilege no longer presents any difficulties, and Benedict XIV adds his desire that the faithful should rely on it (Opera omnia, IX, Venice, 1767, pp. 197 sqq.). Even apart from the Bull and the tradition or legend concerning the apparition and promise of the Mother of God the interpretation of the Decree cannot be contested.

Our Lady appeared in Fatima holding the brown scapular and the rosary, during the miracle of the sun.

And St Louis De Monfort prophecies; “One day through the rosary and brown scapular the Immaculate Heart will Triumph.”

St John Bosco and St Alphonsus Liguria, both died, and their entire remains disintegrated and became Ashes in their graves like normal corpses, including their clothing.
However both their brown scapular were found completely incorrupt and preserved when their bodies were exhumed, and both their brown scapular are on display for the faithful to venerate.

The information below states more information about when the Virgin Mary appeared to Simon Stock as She was holding a Brown Scapular. "Although little is known about Simon Stock’s early life, legend has it that the name Stock, meaning “tree trunk,” derives from the fact that, beginning at age twelve, he lived as a hermit in a hollow tree trunk of an oak tree. It is also believed that, as a young man, he went on a pilgrimage to the Holy Land where he joined a group of Carmelites with whom he later returned to Europe. Simon Stock founded many Carmelite Communities, especially in University towns such as Cambridge, Oxford, Paris, and Bologna, and he helped to change the Carmelites from a hermit Order to one of mendicant friars. In 1254 he was elected Superior-General of his Order at London. Simon Stock’s lasting fame came from an apparition he had in Cambridge, England, on July 16, 1251, at a time when the Carmelite Order was being oppressed.

We aren’t bashing the Brown Scapular. I wear it myself. On the other hand, I do respect the catechesis of the Carmelite Order, which once again has “custody” of this sacramental.

As Carmelites we are told not to preach about the Sabbatine Privilege and, when need be, to downplay it because it is historically suspect. The purported papal documents cannot be located. This does not mean that the brown scapular is worthless and we still wear our scapulars with humble devotion to Our Lady of Mount Carmel.
