A friend of mine recently told me that he was in a state of Mortal Sin when he received Confirmation. He had done everything in his power to find a priest beforehand, and was unable to. He was told today in confession that the grace of the Sacrament was applied immediately following his next confession; I have been told by another priest, however, that the Sacrament would be invalid if received in such a state. Is he (my friend) actually Confirmed? Or does he have to have it validated or re-done? Would that affect his ability to enter into the Sacrament of Marriage?

It is still valid, he just won’t receive the graces of the sacrament until he confesses. All he needs to do is make a good confession, nothing else needs to be done.
