Is the Sacrament of Matrimony celebrated as a High Mass or a Low Mass within the Extraordinary Form of the Mass?

Greeting Everyone.

Please excuse my lack of knowledge of the Tridentine Mass. I am just now researching and experiencing it for myself within my diocese, however, since we are within the Wedding Season, I just need more clarification on how The Sacrament of Matrimony is celebrated within The Extraordinary form of the Roman Rite.

Thank you.

By “three priests” I presume there is the celebrant, a deacon, and a subdeacon.

Yes, you are correct.

The page really should not say “three priests” however, I understand why it does: it’s rare (though not uncommon) to have a Solemn High Mass with a Priest, Deacon and Acolyte serving as sub-deacon. More often than not, all three are ordained priests.

OP - if you (or the Parish/Chapel) can get supply a schola for a High Nuptial Mass, then you can have a High Mass (and you can even have a Solemn High Mass) if you can get a priest, Deacon, sub-deacon & schola.

If you can’t, a Low Nuptial Mass is available.

NOTE: unless you are part of a Traditional Latin Mass Parish (for example, one staffed by the FSSP) it might be difficult for a regular, territorial parish to offer a High or Solemn High Nuptial mass.

God Bless
