Notice that God calls each day of creation “good” except for the second day.

6 And God said, “Let there be an expanse between the waters to separate water from water.” 7 So God made the expanse and separated the water under the expanse from the water above it. And it was so. 8 God called the expanse “sky.” And there was evening, and there was morning—the second day.

Hm that is kinda odd that , but yes it was good. Everything that God creates is good.

If everything God created was good, then we’re troubled in explaining how evil, as expressed though the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil, got created prior to the sin of Adam and Eve.

For God, the author of natures, not of vices, created man upright; but man, being of his own will corrupted, and justly condemned, begot corrupted and condemned children. For we all were in that one man, since we all were that one man, who fell into sin by the woman who was made from him before the sin. For not yet was the particular form created and distributed to us, in which we as individuals were to live, but already the seminal nature was there from which we were to be propagated; and this being vitiated by sin, and bound by the chain of death, and justly condemned, man could not be born of man in any other state. And thus, from the bad use of free will, there originated the whole train of evil, which, with its concatenation of miseries, convoys the human race from its depraved origin, as from a corrupt root, on to the destruction of the second death, which has no end, those only being excepted who are freed by the grace of God.

On what day of creation was Hell created?
Hell was not created at the begining. Hell was created when Lucifer and some angels fought a war against God in Heaven. After losing the war, Lucifer and his followers were cast into a place created for them, Hell. He is now the devil and his followers are demons.

I cant find a source on this now but when I do, I’ll post it up on here

So, when was evil first evident: Before the sin of Adam and Eve or afterward? Again, note that the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil existed prior to any sin by Adam and Eve. And, the serpent surely existed prior to the sin of Adam and Eve. How did the serpent become evil?

I would be most interested in knowing some kind of time line between the sins of Lucifer and the story of creation. Was the serpent Lucifer or Satan? Where in the course of human existence did evil originate? If the serpent is associated with Satan or Lucifer then it seems clear that evil was not the result of human sin, but vice versa; some sort of evil preceded the temptation.

Thanks,

God Bless!

If Hell was created after the fall of Adam and Eve then you’re implying that God’s creation was not fully completed in 6 days?

Thanks,

God Bless!

How do you propose we construct this time line? I am not aware the the texts describing these events provide the necessary data.
Was the serpent Lucifer or Satan?
That is my belief.
Where in the course of human existence did evil originate?
At the moment the mankind chose to disobey God. Prior to that it came into existance when some of the angels chose to separate themselves from God.

Why is that? Whether man’s disobedience was first or not does not diminish the nature of its evil.

Why do you thing this tree expresses evil?

If hell is a created place, it would be good, because it would represent God’s justice. Those who refuse God’s mercy, must, by nature of God’s Justice, be permitted to exercise their choice.

If hell is a place, then it would have been created with the rest of creation.

Are you implying that hell is uncreated? Again, I ask when was Hell created relative to the story of creation, like on day 2? Who says that only good places were created during the 6 days of Creation?

God Bless,

PS I’m having trouble following all your logic and thus I’m having trouble responding to your replies. Nonetheless, I thank you for replying.

I don’t know if hell is a place or a state of being.

As far as I know, no one knows the answer to your “when” question.

God is Good. Then, by definition, any of his creation is good. So, to your “Who says” question, I say God says.

Is this logic clearer? I tend to be too succinct for many.

Perhaps it was not. I’m not sure. But my point of the origins of evil having existed prior to Adam and Eve’s sin still remains.
I didn’t think evil was a created thing. I thought evil is simply the absence of good.

Just as darkness is nothing more than the absence of light and cold is the absence of heat.

Do you think evil is a thing? I do not. I believe it is a privation of the good.

Based on my study of Catholic teaching the “Tree of the knowledge of Good and Evil” represents man’s desire to define for himself what is good or evil rather than letting God define it.

With respect of evil entering the world prior to man’s fall, I agree with you. If not, the serpant, the devil, would not been in the garden tempting Eve.

There’s no text that I know of which shows a timeline of sorts for the entrance of evil into the world. Some protestant theologians, such as C.I. Scofield, posit the “gap theory”, which is the gap between Genesis 1 and 2 where all sorts of maladies, from dinosaurs dying out to the fall of the angels, are said to have occurred.

If we follow the Genesis story chronologically, then we would have to assume that Lucifer and the angels fell prior to Adam and Eve because of the tree and the serpent. Truth is, Scriptures don’t really tell us and I don’t know if Tradition says either.

On what day of creation was Hell created?
This would be another thing that was not revealed to us either by Scripture or Tradition. It was originally created for the devil and his angels, so we can only speculate that hell was created after the rebellion of the angels and before the creation of mankind. We simply don’t know.

We really don’t have a timeline. Since Lucifer means “light-bearer” and Satan means “accuser of the brethren” and “adversary”. So, I would go with the personage Satan. We believe evil began with Satan in the angelic realm and with Adam and Eve in the garden. Either way, it doesn’t matter. Lucifer rebelled and Adam and Eve sinned, bringing evil upon the human race. How we got to this point is kind of moot now.
