Is the SSPX considered a different religion? Sect? Denomination?

Although there are other issues, the issue most folks associate with the SSPX is that of the availability of the Traditional Latin Mass.
Many of our bishops have done a miserable job of carrying out the wishes of the Holy Father in this matter. If you really want to see excuses look at what some of these bishops have put forward.
Your Eastern Rite has been largely free from most of the kind of novelty and abuses which prompt many of us Latin Rite folks to desire the reverence and dignity so often missing in our local Novus Ordo Masses.
As you are an Eastern Rite member, I would not really expect you to understand this Latin Rite issue any more than I would understand the issues that keep so many Orthodox Christians from full union with the Church.

Since you brought it up, its not true that Eastern Rite, especially the Catholic ones, are free from Liturgical abuses. We have our own issues, but we mostly deal with them quietly. You’d have a few come online and complain about it. In fact, since you did mention it, the SSPX did affiliate itself with a schismatic group in the Ukrainian Catholic Church who wished to defy our Patriarch and continue with the Latinizations in the UGCC even though the Patriarch wants a return to the true Eastern traditions of the Ukrainian Church. Bishop Williamson ordained priests for them for a time since the Society of St. Josaphat didn’t have a bishop.

Oh, and I have been Roman Catholic for 95% of my life. So I understand everything about Roman Catholicism.

Wow!!👍 Congratulations. I have been a Catholic all of my life and I don’t know everything about Roman Catholicism. You must be a pretty amazing type of person.👍

I think they want the ambiguities of the Vatican II documents clarified. Their negotiation could be useful for the wider Church as well. It could help nullify bogus ideas about ‘the spririt of Vatican II’ by provoking a definiitive clarification.

If they believe they are in the right, then it is more fruitful to work from within the Church than be a rebel group. Rebel groups do nothing to change the Church. Martin Luther tried to reform the Church by making his own Church and implementing his own reforms. As opposed to St. Francis of Assisi who remained loyal and submissive to proper authority while effecting changes on the Church.

Since the topic of Eastern Catholic Churches have been brought up, there are many things the Eastern Churches do not like currently with how things are set up and run with the Vatican. For one thing, I can’t recall an Eastern Church that is completely happy with the CCEO or the Code of Canons for the Eastern and Oriental Churches. Yet because we value communion with the Pope, we remain in communion and honor the CCEO while working with the Pope to make changes that is agreeable to both sides. We know that breaking off and protesting does nothing to get what we want and only deepens the wounds of disunity of the Church.

Yes, we have a good Diocese Bishop.
Not only does the FSSP say Masses in various Parishes, our Bishop helped them to get their own Parish which seems to be thriving.

Regarding the OF Mass, yes it is reverant at my Parish. We have a good Administrator who follows GIRM (General Instruction of the Roman Missal) exactly as required.
When I first moved here, I privately pointed out where GIRM was not being followed and he corrected it immediately for the next Sunday.
