Is the st benedict medal sacramental?

I read online that it was. Before I read this I ordered a beautiful st Benedict wood rosary, does that mean I cannot pray using it? Can I wear the medal? :shrug:I’m not baptized and am new to the faith please have patience on me…🙂

I think anything that is used to foster devotion or further understanding of the faith (provided it is used in a reverential manner) is a sacramental and is designed to be used as an aid to the wearer/owner. Someone correct me if I’m wrong. You certainly can pray while using, enjoying, contemplating it.

The medal of Saint Benedict is a sacramental. A set of rosary beads is also a sacramental.

The item you describe combines a set of rosary beads with the medal of Saint Benedict. You may certainly use this item in your prayer life, even though you are not yet baptised. I would encourage you to ask a priest or deacon to bless this religious article for you, if you wish…for example, after Mass when they are greeting people.

If you are in North America, many people there do not wear a rosary and find the custom foreign to them. On the hand, in Latin America and elsewhere in the world, people do wear a rosary and peoples of those cultures who live in America do wear them. Some people find it the most convenient way of carrying a rosary on their person, actually.

Anyone can pray and use sacramentals, like a rosary or blessed medal. Note the difference between sacramentals and the Sacraments.

Sacramentals and prayer are what bring you to the faith, they bring you closer to God. They strengthen your belief in Catholicism! By all means use them! God Bless you!
 
It is a sacramental and very helpful in warding off the demonic.

If you can possibly find a priest to bless your medal in the Old Rite, you will have, on your person, a most efficacious sacramental indeed. 🙂
 
Make sure you get the proper blessing. Saint Benedict Medals require a special formula that, in my experience, most Priests do not know. I actually had a Priest stop halfway through the official blessing and say “Its already blessed, do I have to say the rest?” but he continued when I asked him to. You can find the St. Benedict Medal’s blessing on Google. It’s really not that long, only about a minute.
