i know that the story is mostly true… probably one of those allegories… because i know that something went haywire a long time ago so as to make man as sinful and fallen as he is…

but i just wonder if the story is true in other than an allegorical or mystical kind of way…

i mean, what is the deal with the apple?

why were they ashamed of being naked when they weren’t before the apple incident?

what is the deal with the snake talking? Hmm… enough to make you question your beliefs… (if it weren’t for the Real Presence and the Mass that is. After knowing those… How can one lose his faith?? :))…

RESPONSE

Of course! And every Catholic has to believe them or they go straight to hell! (Don’t they?😉

Pope Pius X, Motu Proprio Praestantia Scripturae, 18 Nov. 1907 “We now **declare and expressly enjoin that all Without exception **are bound by an obligation of conscience to submit to the decisions of the Pontifical Biblical Commission, whether already issued or to be issued hereafter, exactly as to the decrees of the Sacred Congregations which are on matters of doctrine and approved by the Pope; nor can anyone who by word or writing attacks the said decrees avoid the note both of disobedience and of rashness or be therefore without grave fault.”

Concerning the Historical Character of the First Three Chapters of Genesis, Pontifical Biblical Commission, June 30, 1909

III: In particular **may the literal historical sense be called in doubt **in the case of facts narrated in the same chapters which touch the foundations of the Christian religion: as are, among others, the creation of all things by God in the beginning of time; the special creation of man; the formation of the first woman from the first man; the unity of the human race; the original felicity of our first parents in the state of justice, integrity, and immortality; the command given by God to man to test his obedience; the transgression of the divine command at the instigation of the devil under the form of a serpent; the degradation of our first parents from that primeval state of innocence; and the promise of a future Redeemer?
Answer: In the negative.

You just have to believe everything the Church tells you, Distracted. Didn’t Father or Sister tell you that!😃

The accounts are absolutely true!

The first account yells just how much God loved and loves us.

It yells many other things, but that is absolutely primary.

The actual words need to be carefully understood.

They seem to be inspired and written in figures.

Those figures need to be carefully examined and decoded, just like a proverb.

Best example: “In the Beginning” actually means the Word, the Second Person of the Trinity.

If I am correct, thank God. If I am not, I apologize.

I have to get back to work.

what apple are you referring to?

Another point beyond the actual words and moving to their meaning, God created in the Beginning and that is His Word, Second Person.

The creation accounts yells that God loved and loves us–He sent the Second Person into creation. He sent His love to save us.

We were created in His image and likeness, that is, in the image and likeness of His love and beauty.

God bless!

There is nothing in Genesis about Adam and Eve eating an apple. That’s fictitious.
What they ate was “the fruit of the tree”. We don’t know what fruit it was.

I believe that they recieved life from God’s love planted in their soul, we are rooted in His love.

That love was placed in the center of their soul, center of the Garden–center of delight.

The love that was placed in them gave them gave them produce, as in fruits and vegetibles. The fruits of Tree of Life are–Love, joy, peace, patience and the rest as found in Galatians chapter 5.

Jesus clearly teaches that to do God’s will is our food.

In continuing with the theme of the literal meaning of the accounts of Adam and Eve, the Tree of Life was planted in the middle of the garden. God is the farmer, or as Jesus says: my Father is the vinedresser or husbandman or gardener John 15: 1. He plants His love in us and gives us life—love gives eternal life.

This Tree of Life has fruit—love, joy, peace, patience, generosity, and so forth.

Those seeds are planted in us, too.

There was another tree, the tree of knowledge of good and evil.

The tree of knowledge is good when it cooperates with the Tree of Life.

There is a tree of prudence and it is called a tree of life.

The seeds of joy grow up to be trees of life, when they listen or hear love.

The seeds of generosity are good, not evil, when they hear or listen to the Tree of Life.

Ergo and et cetera.

As Catholics we do take the Bible literally, but not don’t take the scriptures in a literalist sense. Adam and Eve were real. You do have some facts wrong here. Scripture doesn’t tell us that what kind of fruit that Adam and Eve ate (apple, orange, etc.). It is wrong to assume that the fruit was an apple. They became ashamed of their nakedness, because of their disobedience towards God. This link right here will explain further in detail haydock1859.tripod.com/id330.html

John Randall Sachs in a wonderful little book, The Christian View of Humanity, speaks to one of the most distorted secular images of the Biblical, human beings in the likeness or image of God and the relationship between man and woman.

It challenges what the consequences of believing in “science and progress,” “oneself” or one’s “sexual orientation,” and that terrible trap they refer to when they say “Freedom” — what these things actually mean for the human.

Wonderful link . I just finished reading “In the Beginning” by Pope Benedict, written when he was still a Cardinal. It essentially affirms what you said, that we are made in the image of God, and that when we no longer acknowledge and obey our Creator, we are really nothing at all, in a Hell of our own making.

I use to not believe in the adam and eve story but now i do. The thing with that story is that there might some symbolism in there.

If the world hates you remember that it hated me first,no servant is greater than his master, if they persecuted me(jesus) they will persecute you.
