Is the story of Adam and Eve real?

Again same as the Noah Poll

This is just a poll. No debate here. I’m simply interested in the statistics of who believes it is real and who thinks it was just a story.

By Christian i mean all people that follow the teachings of Jesus. I’m obviously not including Islam in this even though they acknowledge Jesus.

But i would be interested for Jewish and Islamic people to post their religion and what they voted for. Although being put into the non Christian category.
 
Hi

I am an Ahmadi peaceful Muslim. I believe Adam and Eve had their fathers and mothers. Adam was not the first man created , rather he was the first person with whom GodAllahYHWH had conversation one-to-one.

Bible and Quran have tried to expalin the creation of man in an analogy.

Somehow in both of these polls the term “analogy” doesn’t seem to fit the situation. Myth or legend might be better and by myth I do not mean a fable or fairy tale.

Because myths and legends are based on a real truth?

Your right about hteir bieng a better word but i dont htink its myth. It doesnt matter because i think people get my point.

Probably because most people aren’t convinced one way or the other as to what they believe about Adam and Eve and the whole creation account, and I’ll count myself among them.

I believe it to be true, but I don’t know whether I can say it is literal or an analogy. I may never know in this life beyond that it is somehow true. 🤷
 
I believed it is true because the Holy Bible mention it. I am one of many who believed the Adam and Eve story is a literal story.🙂
 
I do not believe the story to be literally true, but instead, a way to teach us to obey God. One must realize that people in Biblical times did not have as accurate a worldview as we have today. They were very superstitious and were quick to associate unrelated things with each other. They believed sickness/disease were punishments for sin, and that natural disasters were also punishments for upsetting God. Today, we know this is not the case. The story of Adam and Eve is someone’s attempt at trying to make sense of our chaotic world. This someone assumes that the world is chaotic because there was some “breach of contract” with our creator.

Somebody please tell me this is a joke.
P.S. sorry to sound arrrogant, but i find it hard to just sit by and watch people just completely ignore scientific facts, there just doing a dis-service to catholicism. It may be an analogy to teach a certain message but i can assure you IT DID NOT LITERALLY HAPPEN!

Is there anyway for me to change the thread title of this? I want something with more pazzaz that will get more voters.

Also i heard in a recent survay that 44% of American belive the world is just a little over 6000 years old…

I’ll wade in, even though it will probably get me moderated or something. I also believe it to be a methphorical story. If Adam and Eve were the first man and woman, and they begat Cain and Abel, who did Cain “take as his wife”? Eve? of course not.

Then who? If everyone is a descendant of Adam and Eve, we’re all guilty of incest, which we all find repugnant. Obviously it’s a metaphorical story, to teach us a lesson, much like an episode of “Leave it to Beaver”. I find many Old Testament stories to be in this same vein, including Noah.

Actually, the Bible documents a third child (Seth) of Adam and Eve. In fact, in Luke 3, Jesus’ lineage is tied to Seth. I do not believe this (and by saying this, I have opened pandora’s box on this thread), but I too agree that the story is figurative. His lineage is not suppossed to be historically accurate (this is probably good for a new thread).

I posted some really good explanations of the creation stories a couple posts above; you may enjoy reading them.

first of all you must be ten because you dont know how to second of all a myth is a thing that is made up not real like adam and eve and a legend is like the bloody mary **** because it was something that happened a long time ago and might be real and well i think it real because my sister was murdered one night and her body was in the bathroom
