Is The Theory of Evolution mandatory for the modern worldview

Alethios, what you have written is distasteful. Please allow me to inform you of the TRUTH.
The epigram was written by James Lowell, not Alethios. That’s the TRUTH.

The truth is often distasteful - for there are those who love the darkness and flee from the light - St. John.
scientific truth, which is itself a participation in divine Truth
We agree completely with JPII but we ask. “What and where is scientific truth today?”
Clearly not to be found in the evolution fable of mainstream science, neither in the cosmic variety aka Big Bang, or in Darwin’s terrestrial version of biotic change. Both speculations eschew the testing required for the scientific method and belie their own foundations of scientific proof.

Al least Pope John Paul now knows the divine truth and the scientific truth, though the latter no longer matters.

Confused? I understand what a handful of people are doing here with crystal clarity. It is called salesmanship and ‘engineering consent.’ For the more scientifically inclined, I suggest you look up the work on behavior done by a man named Skinner for the Office of Naval Research.
ME FIRST. 😃 I suggest you read the pdf that I’ve presented. Tell me what you don’t agree with then I will entertain reviewing Skinner.
“In continuity with previous twentieth century papal teaching on evolution (especially Pope Pius XII’s encyclical Humani Generis), the Holy Father’s message acknowledges that there are ‘several theories of evolution’ that are ‘materialist, reductionist and spiritualist’ and thus incompatible with the Catholic faith. It follows that the message of Pope John Paul II cannot be read as a blanket approbation of all theories of evolution, including those of a neo-Darwinian provenance which explicitly deny to divine providence any truly causal role in the development of life in the universe.” from Human Persons Created in the Image of God, part 64
Ed, my statement by Pope John Paul II is the most current position taken about science. Compare my date to your date. And remember what Pope John Paul II stated in my submission!
Details of a recent experiment with an insect were published on Science Daily. The insect was shown various things (stimulus) and its reactions were recorded. The insect is regarded only as a biochemical device. Its being "alive’ was simply a function of biochemical activity. Once neural activity ceases for man or insect, you are dead and simply begin to decay.
Science Daily isn’t a peer-reviewed journal. It’s been known to distort the truth of many a brilliant scientist and more often than not proliforates junk news.
Only the Catholic Church can provide complete answers regarding life, death, human origin, human dignity and human interaction. Science can assist but only the Church can integrate the deposit of faith with human derived observation, experimentation and explanation. This relationship between science and religion was defined by Pope John Paul II: “Science can purify religion from error and superstition; religion can purify science from idolatry and false absolutes.”
The Catholic Church isn’t the only provider nor does the Catholic Church give complete answers regarding life, death, human origin, human dignity and human interaction. If this were the case then the Church wouldn’t have need of the Holy See: Vatican which contains the Pope, Cardinals, and its Scientific Advisory Committee. They are constantly delivering more information about issues. FYI, your quote from Pope John Paul II as noted above is taken out of a much larger and older document. In my opinion, it could be considered cherry picking and quote-mining from a document to suit your opinion.🙂

I first read it in Readers Digest Magazine, and I have heard it several time since. I didn’t just dream it up folks.
If you try to get your facts from Reader’s Digest, you’ll be continually misled.

Reminds me of a joke:

“How do keep (former president) uninformed?”

A: Hide his Reader’s Digest

“How do you keep him misinformed?”

A: Give it back to him.

(disclaimer: said former president was not as dumb as he was sometimes portrayed, but the Reader’s Digest part was right on)

To my fellow Caholics -

Once again, there are those who profess that man’s knowldge is superior to knowledge provided by God through the Catholic Church:

The Church has made statements about the following subjects and they are meant to be acted upon:

No abortion.

No embryonic stem cell research.

No human cloning.

No genetic engineering to create a superhuman.

Unfortunately, some here believe that applying a simple formula, like solving a math problem, will lead to acceptance. Or that more education needs to be applied and any person will accept anything. This is demonstrably impossible because these approaches ignore the deposit of faith held by the Church or repackage it in such a way to make their interpretation of it seem correct.

An attempt is being made here to sell evolution like a product. These attempts are frequent and ongoing, implying that something other than the actual product is being sold. The actual product is a Scientific Technocracy that will dictate, or attempt to dictate, to the Church. It will be in control. The Church will be eased out of the picture. Joining the effort is the ACLU which is isolating religious expression as far away from the public as possible and censoring religious speech. This group is joined by a global media that today, denounces Christianity constantly, on TV, radio, the internet, newspapers, magazines, etc.

God bless,
Ed

It all depends on what you mean by evolution. I believe the Horse evolved from a smaller horse. but if you think I swallow that thing about man came from ape, your really stretching it. Science has NEVER proven that one species can change into another species. Whatever has happened in all creation, God has done it and it is NO accident. My faith is in HIM and NOT scientist that can’t seem to tell fact from fiction sometimes. That my friend IS sanity.
Hello Friend??? It is quite sane to put your “faith” in God. It is quite insane to close one’s mind and fail to use the intellect God gave us. That is a slap in the face to the Almightty. And that my friend?? is the way I believe. 😃

It’s a funny word to use when you don’t know that the argument came from a creationist source. And no, it’s not polite in any case.
I have seen exactly that argument, with exactly the same ten mile figure before, and yes it was from a creationist source. I have even seen a version of the same argument with the figure of one mile! So much for the inhabitants of Denver - mile-high city. 🙂

I am polite to people, I am not polite to falsehood. Memaw was the victim in this case, not the perpetrator, as I hope I made clear.

My point about the need to check facts remains.

What does that have to do with what I said???

This threed has not improved and has drifted off into prayer and interpersonal chatter.
