Greetings,
I’m dealing with a few close friends of mine who have taken a strong Nazerite/Hebrew Christian/Sabbath Keepers position. They were protestants (still are I guess), and although they still accept Christ as the Messiah, they now worship at a synagogue (with others who believe the way they do), follow the Torah to the letter and claim that today’s Christian world, Catholic and protestant, have missed the mark on The Sabbath, our diet, our feast days, our calendars, etc.
I’ve been studying Galatians 3, 4, 5 and Romans 7. Both are great and show the promise of Abraham and God’s intended revelation to the Gentiles/Jews. However, one area that I’m having trouble defending is The Sabbath. This is a commandment from God and something that, in mind, cannot be ratified/changed. I understand we’re not under the custodian, or law, anymore. However, I don’t see any evidence of the church being free from observing and remembering The Sabbath.
My question: What is the Catholic position on The Sabbath? Is this something that we need to honor? If so, how do we do it. If not, why?
