Social Justice… where does a Catholic go for a better understanding of social justice or for a better understanding of being Catholic? In the USA we would probably look to the USCCB for a lot of guidance. Maybe it is to determine what movies are acceptable or to keep up with scripture readings for Mass and prayer.

Recently I have read and heard that the USCCB has for years been supporting anti-catholic groups financially with the dollars we donate of Sundays.

I posted in Traditional Catholicism and was told that discussion of the USCCB is not meant for that area. So after some consideration I determined this forum area may best be suited. I wish I could simply have my other thread redirected here but c’est la vie.

Anyhow… if our USCCB is financing groups that support abortion and gay marriage and other very anti-catholic doctrines then are we as the laity supporting evil by supporting the USCCB?

This strikes me as something that most certainly deals with Social Justice.

What say you?

I don’t think that the USCCB supports such groups. I just think that they have simply allowed some immoral and unscrupulous people to work for them.

Uhm, you would have to provide some proof for a discussion to occur, don’t you think?

Holly is exactly correct. The UCCSB is just a group of people trying to do their best, despite many failures.

MEMORANDUM
TO: All Bishops
FROM: Bishop Roger P. Morin, Chairman
RE: CCHD
I write to respond to a recent report from Bellarmine Veritas Ministries that identified several CCHD-funded groups that had taken actions in conflict with CCHD’s guidelines after they were funded, particularly lack of conformity with Catholic teaching.
The projects in the report included The Rebecca Project for Human Rights, in Washington, D.C.; the Chinese Progressive Association; and Young Workers United, both based in San Francisco.

The leadership of the Rebecca Project, which had already been de-funded by CCHD as a result of national and local staff oversight, was found to be in support of abortion rights. The Chinese Progressive Association and Young Workers United, both immigrant workers’ rights groups, had, **without the knowledge of the local Archdiocese **or CCHD, produced voter guides that took positions on referenda opposed to Catholic teaching on same-sex marriage and, in one case, parental notification and abortion. As soon as these facts were confirmed, and after consultation with the local Archdiocese, the groups were also defunded. These prompt and decisive responses were noted by Bellarmine in a subsequent story on its Web site. Two other groups named in the original story were investigated and, in consultation with the local dioceses, the charges proved to be inaccurate or a misunderstanding had occurred. These firm actions are consistent with CCHD’s policies and practices, which deny funding to groups that take positions contrary to Catholic teaching. If you have any concerns or questions about these actions, please feel free to contact me, Ralph McCloud, or John Carr at the USCCB.

In addition, I remind you that the CCHD ban on funding ACORN at any level remains in place. You can assure your people that this will be the third CCHD collection in which no funds have gone or will go to any national or local ACORN structures.

I want to take this opportunity to thank you for your continued support and to assure you that the CCHD Subcommittee and staff take seriously any allegation that groups we fund are not in compliance with Catholic teaching, or are participating in partisan political activity. We immediately investigate each allegation in consultation with the local diocese and, if the allegations are confirmed, discontinue funding immediately. We are always examining ways to strengthen and improve our monitoring efforts to ensure that all of the 250 current grantees comply with CCHD criteria. This is an ongoing process, involving both local dioceses and national CCHD and national staff.

You’re welcome.

Sadly, you picked the only one that is hiding the truth.

HLI, ALL, and several other pro-life priest and lay people organizations have uncovered the dirt on CCHD. They are an ACORN-like group. Once the ACORN funding was finished, CCHD decided to help pick up the slack and fund some of the ACORN projects themselves. Sneaky…

Throughout the national campaign this past November, which called on Catholics to withhold donations to the CCHD, the CCHD ran damage control, deflecting or dismissing the charges made against its grantees. Oddly enough, however, the CCHD never responded to the charges concerning the 31 grantees found to be partners with the pro-abortion, pro-homosexual Center for Community Change. Among the initial findings regarding this organization are the following:
  • CCC received $75,000 in 2007 from the Arcus Foundation specifically for homosexual activism
  • Funds donated for the project Generation Change, an initiative to recruit, support and train the next generation of community organizers and emerging social justice leaders through paid internships, fellowships and mentorships for activists from communities of color and from the GLBT community.
  • CCC held training seminar for homosexual groups
  • (References) Gay Cities and P-FLAG
  • From the introduction to CCC’s Movement Vision Project, which embraces “abortion rights” and “reproductive freedom”
  • “abortion rights and reproductive freedom intersect with criminal justice. Our solutions must intersect as well” – Introduction to the Movement Vision Project of The Center for Community Change
  • CCC produced a Tool Kit celebrating homosexual lifestyles with the following quotes:
  • “This conservative strategy also fostered hostility toward those struggling for equal opportunity—people of color, women, immigrants, gays and lesbians, and poor people. Individualism, in this context, has meant ignoring and refusing to recognize that barriers to opportunity still exist. It then demonized those of us who would tear down those barriers.”
  • “But the old days in the form of 1950’s America was also home to racism, segregation, limited opportunity for women, and hostile to gays and lesbians.”
  • Calendar of Community Values News Hooks contains the following:
  • “Use this 2008 calendar as a planning tool. It can help you identify opportunities to get out your message about community values. Connecting your press release or op-ed to a holiday or notable/historic date in a unique way can help it get better coverage.”
  • May 20, 1996: Romer v. Evans decided by the Supreme Court, ruling against an amendment to the Colorado Constitution that allowed discrimination against gays and lesbians
  • June: Gay Pride Month
  • June 28, 1969: Stonewall Rebellion helps to spark the gay rights movement
  • October 11: National Coming Out Day, commemorating 2nd March on Washington for LGBT Rights
  • CCC’s resource library endorses a book supporting so-called “abortion rights”
  • “Reproductive Justice Briefing Book: A Primer on Reproductive Justice and Social Change” by SisterSong is an activists’ guide to promoting abortion rights
  • The CCC summary for the book says:
  • “Need a one-stop shop for information on reproductive justice? Well, SisterSong has got the right tool for you. This series of articles documents the struggle for reproductive justice and bridges this struggle with other issues within the social justice movement such as immigration and queer rights. Additionally, the series touches upon the future of the women’s movement in relation to reproductive justice.”

Thanks for the posts.

The Devil is indeed in the USCCB and it is foolish for any to deny it. The way to beat Satan is with the Truth for God’s Light destroys the Dark.

Keep up the Good Work.

In Christ,

Jack

Ask Archbishop Chaput to take it over and shape it up.

Transfer the present staff, all, to Point Barrow, Alaska.
