I agree.
History teaches us that a “One World Government” is not a workable concept. People and groups may come close, only to find that Providence may have other plans for them.
The British Empire is a particularly good example. At one point, it was said that the sun never set on it; but look at England now. Sure, they have the “Commonwealth”, but they’re facing a major moral and social decline in addition to having lost their temporal power. (Not that some of us in their former holdings don’t miss them, considering what we got in exchange, but that’s another topic…

)
Technology is a communication tool, but it may not be a “unifying” tool, except in bringing those with similar interests together, and accentuating the differences between groups that already couldn’t stand each other. If you need proof, go to Facebook, or any other social networking site (Orkut is a million times worse) and look at the number of extremist groups and communities of all stripes, all hating their fellow men, and convinced that they alone are right. (I will refrain from giving examples, as they could be occasions of sin.)
And even in terms of geopolitics, there’s no drive towards unification. The UN is a sad, dysfunctional joke of an organization (something Tolstoy predicted more than a hundred years ago.) Communism in China will fail as it did in the USSR, even if it takes a little longer. What Samuel Huntingdon called “the Clash of Civilizations” will continue to occur. “Traditional”, non-Western religions - most notably Islam, but also Hinduism - will close ranks, forming tenuous alliances only when this in their interests. And amidst this all, what some historians call
la revanche de Dieu - a resurgence of religious beliefs and ideals - is also taking place.
Do such things point to an end? They must, if we believe that Divine Providence is the prime mover in our affairs. But to conclude from this that a One World Government (or even the end) is near is a flight of fancy rather than a leap of faith. The wheels are turning, but they will stop only when God decrees it; not when a secular or Protestant “prophet” says they will.
