There have been several articles written by reputable Catholic journalists writing about the confusion, unclear rules, and the stacked deck against orthodoxy at the Synod. This is no conspiracy theory. There is no doubt that an agenda is being pushed, one that is clearly leading towards a certain predetermined outcome, likely one that will push for recognition and approval of gay marriages in the Church. It is no coincidence that the primary writer of the document is a member of the clergy that has pushed for legal recognition of gay marriage and that the Secretary General of the synod lied about the origin of the term “LGBT” in the preparatory synod document to keep it in the synod’s IL document. This synod will only provide confusion and cause further division in the Church, just as the previous synod did.

I’ve followed this synod on twitter. If I’m understanding it correctly, the document is only going to be written in Italian, the rest of it is going to be audibly translated for everyone else to just listen to before they vote on this. It seems like an irresponsible way of pushing through something that is supposed to be ordinary magisterium.

Yep, the bishops are essentially going to be given the document and asked to vote on it right then and there, with no time beforehand to read it. It also doesn’t help that Pope Francis threw out the rule book weeks before the synod began so that there were no official rules on voting, and even though it has been confirmed that each individual paragraph will be voted on separately, procedures for such things as voting on amendments have still not been established. The voting will take place next week.

What might the synod change in Church doctrine or in the interpretation of the doctrine?

No synod has the authority to change core Christian teachings; nor does any Pope. In matters of interpretation, the unstated struggle in the 2018 synod revolves around Catholic sexual morality. As one young female youth minister put it: Underneath all its social science data and verbiage, the instrumentum laboris is finally, very quietly, about sex. It’s especially odd that the word “chastity” appears almost nowhere in the IL text. Humanae Vitae and the theology of the body are completely absent.

That tells you all you need to know about the direction this synod is going.
