Is there a Biblical explanation for the "assumption of Mary"?

Can you give me a Biblical explanation for what the Catholic Church I believe calls the “assumption of Mary”. (Mary’s continued role of intercession)
The Bible does say that Mary was divinely chosen to bear the Christ child, but she was merely a human vehicle God used to carry out His plan. She was indeed a devout person but also a child of Adam and in need of a Saviour as any other person. While Jesus respected His mother and saw that she was cared for, there is nothing in Scripture to indicate that He elevated her to some special role or purpose following her death. After the first chapter of Acts, the Bible never never mentions Mary again. The Apostle Paul never mentions Mary. Peter, James and John (who knew her personally) never speak of her in any of their writings. Paul says in Rom 8:26 “…the Spirit himself makes intercession for us with groans that words cannot express.” Why does the Catholic Church pray to or through Mary (use of the Rosary). Why do we need her?
