Because I was raised Catholic I know it is a sin to miss Mass on Sundays and on Holy Days of Obligation if one is able to attend. Recently, however, a few of my Protestant friends have “called” me on this one. I can cite The Fourth Commandment, and have found a few New Testament references concerning no work, etc. on the Sabbath, but nothing specifically requiring physical attendance at church. Are there any such passages, or is this requirement handed down through Church Doctrines, Canon Law, and/or other interpretations by The Vatican?
Coincidentally, my teenage son has been challenging me lately on church authority for this same issue. Thanks in advance for any enlightenment on this topic. Peace of Christ be with you.
