Is there a Christian denomination that believes Earth is Hell?

I believe in God and I believe Jesus was God but I think hell is a state of mind and Earth is hell in same way Buddhists think of Samsara but I don’t believe in reincarnation. I’m just trying to figure out how to classify my beliefs.

Years ago, one of my friends/acquaintances mentioned to me this was her church/religion’s belief. Her church is a single building, ‘Christian’ non-denominational church in a little city in the middle no where. It wasn’t a long, deep conversation - but I’ve always remembered her comment about how her church believes hell is now, is here on earth at this moment. That we are all living in hell and only those who are saved will go to heaven after they die but the rest will just die.

I guess I remember her comment because it seemed very strange, doesn’t seem to work and doesn’t follow the bible… she and her family are still members of that little church. We have never really been ‘friends’ but I hear updates of her through someone else I am still friends with.

So… I don’t have a ‘denomination’ answer that believes Earth is hell - but churches that teach this do exist on the fringes at least.

LOL… yeah, her religious views were always a little off and her personality was such that although we had a few friends in common, we never quite hit it off. Some of their beliefs are certainly illogical but, I never really entertained long conversations with her. 🙂

… LOL. She knows what everyone else believes. She certainly knows what Catholics believe (my best friend who still is in touch with her is a very strong, active and wonderfully faithful Catholic) And… I don’t talk to her. She’s not a friend, we aren’t in touch and she lives 1100 miles away. 🙂

BUT we can hope the original poster of this thread might come to the truth.

In a direct response to your question Unitarian Universalist Churches or The Unity Church would be two that don’t teach a belief in hell.

Our Heaven or our hell begins on Earth, based on how we choose to live and cooperate with God, but we aren’t actually literally in hell. Hell is a point of no return.

I’ve heard some (poorly-catechized) Catholics say that while Earth isn’t Hell, it could be Purgatory.

It seems that I read somewhere that there are some who believe that we live here and are reincarnated to live additional lives here until we will live a life well enough to get us to heaven. In other words, living and suffering on Earth is hell. If we as sinners ever get our life here correct through words and deeds, we get to go to Heaven when we die. If not, we come right back here and start all over again.

Yes! I had occasion to ask a person in our church, who holds a rather important office, something about purgatory. He said that in his personal opinion, many people—maybe most people—are living out their purgatory sentence here in this world, and when they die, they go “directly to Heaven and fall into the loving arms of God.”

Believing this would make life seem like hell for sure.

The sad thing is that there are many Christians who do not believe in reincarnation but still think they can attain entrance into heaven by their words and deeds.

Well I think of the devil as a personification of our thoughts/ego like the buddhist concept of Maya. And Earth is Hell like Samsara. I wouldn’t call myself buddhist though because I believe in God and that Jesus is God-incarnate.

It is interesting how many believe in God but not the devil. Catholic teaching is that the devil and demons are rebellious Angels who rejected God.

I have heard it said that for the saved that this present life on Earth is the closest they will ever get to hell. For the lost, this life is the closest they will ever get to heaven.

I don’t believe in them. What purpose would they have? Why would God allow them to exist without them being banished to Hell? Instead He let’s them hang out as they wish and cause trouble wherever they go? I don’t think so.

I don’t believe in them.
You dont believe in Angels, the devil, demons or God?

What purpose do we have, we are sinners, we sin, some of us remain unrepentent sinners our entire lives, yet God created us and we exist. Rebellious angels are to suffer the same fate as people who remain rebellious to God.

Read Job, it might help you understand this. Job was sent all types of trials and sufferings and griefs by God, Read the Gospels where Jesus goes into the desert for 40 days before He begins His ministry. Jesus was subject to all sorts of troubles by the devil during that time. Imagine you havent eaten and are fasting, for many days, then along comes the devil and says hey you, just turn that stone into nice warm, aromatic tasty bread.

Me, I would be very tempted , just go into a bakery early in the morning to understand what I mean.
