What he tilts at has never existed in any society or country, only in the minds of a few economists; he is thus unable to point to any unregulated *laissez-faire *market. There is no such thing as “unregulated capitalism”.

No, and never have even thought that.

Simply, that all who expect to be fed by others while refusing to work, (which is Robert Sock’s fantasy) and to all [others] who haven’t yet realised how many have actually escaped poverty precisely because they have been assisted to work and thus raise their living standards – as shown previously. Nearly 1 billion people have been taken out of extreme poverty in 20 years, between 1990 and 2010 (post #103).

What caused these 1 billion people to escape extreme poverty? Was it really free enterprise, or was it government intervention? And where did these 1 billion people go? Did they merely go from less than $1.25 (USD) to between $1.25-$2.00?

And yet some 2.4 billion people live on less than than $2 a day (USD) in the world today! How long would you you say say it would take before extreme poverty is eliminated? I would say that we have a long way to go!

The UN defines extreme poverty as living on less than $1.25/day withou access to other food.

If people are brought from $0.00/day to $1.50/day, 1. they are no longer founted as in extreme poverty, and 2. are probably happy to have something rather than nothing, or if they had been earning less than $1.25/day, happy to have a little more.

To re-define extreme poverty upwards causes poverty-fighting efforts to be an exercise in futility.

Sure, living on $1.50/day isn’ *terrific, *bit it beats starving to death, doesn’t it?

This is how it will happen: slowly, incrementally. *Even if your plan were successfully implemented, *it would happen slowly and incrementally.

No one is turning a blind eye but as numerous people have told you, Rome wasn’t built in a day. The alternative is to a spread in people getting out of extreme poverty is for people to continue to live in extreme poverty.

Let them get robots, but we need an economic system that takes good care of those living in extreme poverty. Extreme poverty is a crime against humanity and must be eliminated at all costs.
