My 20 year old daughter recently asked me this question and I didn’t know how to respond. Hopefully you can help me:
“Is it a sin to eat animals that you know were inhumanely raised for slaughter? (Big meatpacking industry type) Should you only buy locally raised meat which was raised in traditional methods or is it best to be vegan?”
Sort of a loaded question, however, she and her husband saw a documentary of how animals are raised for mass market consumption and were appalled. They don’t want to “over-react” unnecessarily, yet they want to do what is right in God’s eyes.
Does the church have any directives that could be applied to this area? My gut instinct is if you can purchase local and sustain a local farmer who is following traditional or organic methods it is best…but I’m not sure.
THANKS!
