Praying my rosary today, it occurred to me that the prayers, especially the apostle creed, might be different now with the new mass translation. Just wondering.
Not unless it’s prayed as a group, in which case some people say “debt” in the Our Father, “thee” in the Hail Mary, and everyone has their own version of the Prayer to St. Michael, if it’s said at the end. I’d go for the Latin version myself.I don’t think it matters in English.
That’s because they’re different prayers. The baptismal Symbol of the Roman Church (the Apostles’ Creed, the Credo in Deum) is prayed at the Rosary, and the Niceno–Constantinopolitan Creed (the Nicene Creed, the Profession of Faith, the Credo in unum Deum) is prayed at Mass. Also,I have always found it a bit confusing that the creed we say at mass is different than the one we say for the rosary. But then again it does make me think about the words.
I was in Catholic elementary school run by the Sisters of the Holy Ghost and Mary Immaculate in the 1970s. At home I learned the “Hail Mary” with thys-thees-and-thous. Then in school, the younger nuns would say the “Hail Mary” with yous and yours. The older nuns and teachers would say it with thys, thees and thous. It became even more confusing when the sister you had for morning classes would start the day with thee/thou and the sister that you had at noon said the Hail Marys during the Angelus with you/your.Not unless it’s prayed as a group, in which case some people say “debt” in the Our Father, “thee” in the Hail Mary, and everyone has their own version of the Prayer to St. Michael, if it’s said at the end. Jimmy Akin’s podcast last Saturday actually discusses this issue. In short, he cites a letter from the CDW which says that in order to to avoid confusion, you should (generally) use the revised prayers (of course, which version you use when praying alone is really not at issue, you can pray however you wantPraying my rosary today, it occurred to me that the prayers, especially the apostle creed, might be different now with the new mass translation.
