Now, now folks. Better watch your tone. Otherwise, redbandito might get offended and think we’re just being hurtful.

What’s your issue? Are you holding a grudge because I requested charity? If so, you need to go to confession buddy. My post was days ago. You need to get over it.

Don’t worry about it Red… sometimes when people don’t have anything better to say they have to pick on someone else who was just looking for a little bit of peace. SOMEONE has to ALWAYS make it personal when they have run out of stuff to say regarding the OP.

I am always right there with ya, both sides need to ALWAYS speak with charity in their posts… thank you for bringing that up! 👍

I’ll be the judge of what I need to get over, not you.

Funny how protestants (AGAIN!!!) are always the one that seem to lecture others on their sins when they ignore their own in the name of “understanding”.

Yes, that was days ago. And yes, I’m still hurt over it and the way all of you protestants use attacks on the Catholic faith as justification for your own heresy.

And you know what? I’m sick of it and I’m not going to lay here and take it anymore from you people.

I have noticed many examples of what you are referring to. I think you’ll find that the VAST majority of posts on this site are genuine and mostly come from Catholics.

Unfortunately the “freedom of speech” we enjoy means people are free to say whatever they want even if it is complete rubbish. The people that use such lies only aid our cause and strengthen our faith by showing us how absurd some non Catholic argument have become just to discredit us. By using such arguments these people only embarrass themselves and make us more credible by comparison.

Let them say what ever they want, they will be their own undoing.

In Christ
Anthony
Let me add an AMEN to this. From a protestant evangelical !!

I am sincerely sorry for your obvious pain regarding protestants.

I don’t think anyone was trying to lecture anyone on anything regarding your post. Red was just responding to your obvious personal attack.

Wow, you are hurt over someone calling for people to act and speak with charity? Why? I would think that if Jesus were here He would be calling for the same. Not all protestants attack the catholic faith. So don’t lump us all in the same pile. Something obviously has happened that caused some deep pain… I will pray that you can find peace and not so much hatred towards the protestant side of the Christian faith.

You people? Wow, for being someone who is ‘hurt’ by protestants and their attacks you sure aren’t helping the issue by returning the favor. Before you start crying PAIN about an issue stop doing it yourself…

I am so sorry… You are right… we are totally getting off track!

To answer the OP I do not think that there is any such thing as a Protestant Conspiracy. To suggest something like that as either an act of Satan or that Protestants have an alterior motive is just plain wrong. Either (if we go with the Satan theory) we are just pawns of Satan and aren’t really after God but stupid enough to believe that while we THINK we are after a relationship with God we are really just being used by Satan to thwart God or (if we go with the motive theory) we don’t want to be very Christ like and all we are really after is to pull catholics away from Christ. shrug It doesn’t paint a pretty picture either way and I would appreciate people, if you really are looking to start an argument, just come out and say protestants are evil stupid Satan pawns… Thanx… 🙂

Good for you jdc! Inquiry is great for the soul. Even though you are protestant and are here to find out what the Church truly believes, I bet you found some very eye opening beliefs. The holy Spirit is guiding you in your life and I firmly believe that if you submit yourself FULLY to his will and accept whatever comes in your path, even though the direction is not what you thought or intended, you’ll feel very free. Even though protestantism seems very free hearted and free loving and joyous, there’s a certain freedom that comes with catholicism. I’ll never forget the feeling of performing the sign of the cross for the first time, something that I wished to do for years! I’ll never forget how relieving my first confession was! WOW! One can almost feel angelic after confession because of the burden being lifted like a ball and chain, you feel so light after dumping the load you can nearly float like an angel! Kneeling! I can think of how restricted I was when I didn’t kneel when catholic family members of mine knelt during Mass (my baptist mom wouldn’t let me). And last but not least, the hunger of 10 years that I felt for the Eucharist. Yes, the last 10 years of my life have been attending Mass regularly without recieving communion! The relieve and exhilarting feeling of partaking in the sacrafice of our Lord and his most beautiful gift to us! But to be honest, when you can accept the fact that the Church is nearly 400 years older than the Bible and 1500 years older than the Bible you follow, you’ll find the truth. I ask you to read into the early Church Fathers. Read far back and into writings of even 1st century Fathers! THEN you’ll begin to “feel” something and there doesn’t even have to be explosive preaching with a rhythmic piano playing! You will then realize that you will forget about “biblical backing” because the bible didn’t even exist back then! Wow, what a concept! The gifts that the Church gives us are beautiful and it’s all handed down from Christ and his Apostles, don’t miss out on the fullness of the faith! It’s much clearer when you step back and look at the WHOLE picture. :amen:
Beautifully said!! As a 74 year old life long “protestant” reading church history and the early church fathers has me convinced that the CC is the church that has preserved the truth down through the years. Its never too late to learn

Alfie, I was truly “Born Again” in 1991, I went forward in a coliseum of about 80,000 people. I was part of a strong evangelical protestant group who for the first 2 years of getting to know them all they did was put down Catholics and any other mainline churches. For the next few years I looked for every opportunity to put down catholics and catholicism and convert them as I was totally convinced these people were going to hell. I dont want to get into my story here as it is very similar to the stories of most reverts and catholics on this forum but I had a big problem in 1998. It first started when I was introduced to the Toronto Airport Fellowship and people like Rodney Howard Brown et all. Totally confused I started listening to Hank Henegraff and I was so confused as everything Hank said made sense but everything he said was contrary to what I had been taught for years. I was confused over these points 1) Are we Saved? Can you lose your salvation? 2) How can a good person who never became “born again” but attended a mainline church die and go to hell and a murderer or a rapist who accepts Jesus in prison go to heaven? 3) If Jesus left us a church, which church? 4)Why would Jesus Die and leave all His people in total confusion 5) Why can anyone start preaching and interpreting the bible without any credentials?

The thing that really bothered me though was after 10 years as a protestant and 5 of them in the same church, the church really had not grown in proportion to the amount of people saved every week. We had a revolving door as it seemed we can get them there but we could not get them to stay. I also noticed that many protestant evangelical churches really don’t convert the lost but the try to get people from mainline churches to their churches. It really is a form of recycling and not growth at all. That could be a general statement but it is my opinion only based on what I had seen. So the statements of “we are growing” should of really said "we are stealing from the Anglicans,United,Presbyterians and Lutherans.

To make a very long story short, I started in a quest to answer these questions and I spent hours and hours and dollars and dollars researching. Open minded and not even remotely thinking that the answers would be in the Catholic Faith, everything I read, heard, and watched pointed at the Roman Catholic Church.
Awesome mastda!

You people? You Protestants? You need to do your homework Chief. If you weren’t so busy being reactionary and uncharitable, you may have taken the time to find out that I am Catholic. Thanks anyway though.

Mastda,

If we are judging a church by the number of members, than that would mean that the early church was a failure. If you look at the population of Palestine at the time of Jesus’ death it was 4,000,000 Jews. There were 120 disciples out of that total which averages out to fewer than 1 in 30,000 Christians. If you have read your Bible you would realize that very few people will make it to heaven. I get the impression that you seem to think that Christianity is a popularity contest, whoever attracts the most converts has to be right. If anything that is a sign that there is something wrong with that particular religious denomination. Read Matthew 13:3-9. The parable of the seeds. It talks about sowing seeds and how few of those seeds actually grow and mature to be reaped. Most people fall away from Christianity because they were not truly born again.

I live in an area of the country that has a large Catholic population. From what I know about the Catholic churches in this area is that Catholic parishoners are assigned to a parrish. They do not have the choice to move from one parrish to another like a protestant can. Some people come to a protestant church when they have a major crisis in their personal lives. When that crisis is over than they are through with church until the next crisis.

You obviously believe in a division of sin into venial and mortal. The Bible does not speak about a division of sin into two catagories. If you were playing a football game and you either lost by 1 point or 100 points it does not matter you still lost the game.

As a Protestant I feel that a lot of the posts on this forum are not authentic. There are too many posts by so called ex-Protestants.I feel that you have people that are delibertly making up the posts to try to convince Evangelicals that the majority of Protestants are finally seeing the light and coming back to the Roman church. When I watch EWTN there are countless numbers of these so-called ex-Protestants on various programs bemoaning how they wasted all their time in Evangelical churches. Catholic programs now use Protestant words like “born again” to mislead minimal Protestants to think that the Catholic definition of “being born again” is equal to the Protestant equivalent. I get the feeling that it is all one great big propaganda machine. The Catholic church fears Evangelicals more than any other force on earth. I do not believe that Evangelicals were ever asked to join Pope John Paul when he met with various religious leaders. A person who has truly been “born again” is never going to join the Catholic church. However the Bible does say that in the last days that even “the Elect” would be deceived and we Evangelicals are “the Elect” so it is possible I suppose that some could be deceived by “seducing spirits”.

Hi Alfie perhaps the same could be said about you, are you real or are just making up a false response that you dont agree with to stop evangelicals becoming Catholics? Ever thought that you mght be deceived by a false spirit rather then Catholics? The Catholic Church does not fear Evangelicals, but rather offers them the full means of salvation this side of the grave, you reject her offer at your peril…

Actually, if you read your Bible, you’d know that John clearly does differentiate between venial and mortal sin.

1 John 5:16-17

16 He that knoweth his brother to sin a sin which is not to death, let him ask, and life shall be given to him, who sinneth not to death. There is a sin unto death: for that I say not that any man ask. 17 All iniquity is sin. And there is a sin unto death.

Well, here’s a post from a former evangelical - I converted to Catholicism in 2000 after years of study, prayer and fasting. I will be glad to e-mail you directly, if you are interested. I am not a haox. I was “truly born again” and could not reconcile the thousands of denominations w/ Christ’s High Priestly Prayer in John 17 - He said “may they be one as we are one.”

The original reformers - Luther, Zwingli, and Calvin, could not come to an agreement about whether the Lord’s Supper was symbolic or whether it was the Real Presence of Christ, so they excommunicated each other and went off in their seperate directions. . . and their legacy is a fractured protestant church - with each group of protestants claiming to be led by scripture and the Holy Spirit, while they are in violent disagreement w/ the church down the street - who also claims to be led by scripture and the Holy Spirit. And it has been my experience that if people become unhappy with the teaching or politics within their church, they’ll just go down the street and start a new church - and then when when people become disenchanted w/ *that *church, they’ll go down the street and start another church.

In my NIV version of the Bible, John 17:23b says, “May they be brought to complete unity to let the world know that you sent me and have loved them even as you loved me (my emphasis)”. Our witness to the unbelieveing world is supposed tio be our unity. Instead, sadly, the world sees bickering among the denominations, with denomination often claiming that they are the “elect” and led by the Holy Spirit, while others w/ a different interpretation of the Bible “must not truly be saved” and could not really be led by the Holy Spirit; the witness to the world becomes pettiness and disunity, quite unlike Christ’s prayer in John 17.

This is not propaganda, friend, this is true conversion. I met regularly w/ the elders of my Evangelical church seeing if they could find holes in the seamless theology I was learning about from the early Church Fathers - but nothing they had to say could compare w/ the eloquence, truth and beauty of the exposition of Scripture in the Catechism of the Ctholic Church.

The Holy Spirit cannot be the Father of chaos: either baptism washes us of our sin, or it does not; either the Lord’s Supper is symbolic, or it is not; either you can lose your salvation or you cannot. But within the protestant world, you find great divergence of beliefs in the afore mentioned three points. “Let’s major int he majors and minor in the minors”, they say - but can we believe that anything so foundational as the Lord’s Supper, baptism, and whether we can loose our salvation to be a “minor”?

Learn more about the stream of converts into the Catholic Church - this is not a hoax. Within the group of leaders of the teen ministry at our Evangelical church, three of us converted to Catholicism in the past 9 years. You may agree or disagree with our decision - but to claim it is a hoax is illogical.

Catholics have nothing to “fear” from Evangelicals - Evangelicals have been around for a couple hundred years, and while I admire their zeal for holiness, they have a foundational misunderstanding about the Real Presence of Christ in the Eucharist. In the Catholic Church, our minds are fed w/ readings from the Old Testament, a Psalm, the New Testament, the Gospel and a homily at each Mass - but our souls are fed by the body and blood of Christ. (John 6:55 says “For my flesh is real food and my blood is real drink.” Think about that very carefully by Evangelical brethern who take the Bible very literally. Jesus never said that His flesh was symbolic food - or that He’d come to us in a “special way” during communion.

I wish you peace in our Lord Jesus Christ as you learn more about the Church He founded - the Catholic Church.
