Tell me for all you people who claim Black lives matters, where are you when these deaths happen by members of their own community where it is an all time high? Where are you when black police officers kill black people, is this really a racist issue or is the left using race as a tool of division to excuse their own failures in these communities?

There is alot of people jumping on board the virtue signalling train but if truly you are interested in helping your disadvantaged brothers and sisters would it not be better to understand the issues that has led to them being disadvantaged rather than jumping on to whats trendy on social media. Something tells me that this isn’t going away anytime soon and the disadvantageous, the social issues are only going to compound but hey, as long as it gets you a few likes on Facebook or Instagram right?

And even more, I think we need to use periodic psychological testing as one tool to minimize the chances that police officers who abuse their authority remain police officers or even become police officers in the first place.

While I believe that abuse of authority is directed more toward certain minorities, not only Blacks but also Latinos, it is directed toward non-minorities as well. This is because of the indoctrination of a police culture as well as ever-present stress on the job and the direction in some cases of superiors in the police department.

At the same time, however, I think the race problem among police officers reflects the larger race problem in the United States. Our nation has a long and sordid history of bad race relations and also ethnic relations among people of the same race.

Virtue signalling is real. Unfortunately it’s often used as an excuse by those on the right to not address the issues.

I’m on record on these forums bringing up black crime rates. Go ahead and look. That doesn’t mean systemic racism isn’t real.

Are you serious? So covid-19 which was the big boogey man stick the left were using to bash Trump yesterday for not taking it seriously enough and POOF, it’s gone, theres now a bigger stick that can be used. Racial injustice. Tell me if this isn’t virtue signalling at the expense of millions of people being unemployed then tell me what is

Let me tell you these aren’t the big issues in your country today, the left claims they are to create a narrative and divide people. ALL of us are responsible for the social problems that exist, not white privilege, males or imperialism ut ALL of us. These things have never been less of an issue however social problems are increasing, crime is rising. It’s obvious, the leftist policies of the past in breaking down the family has now led to these conditions and that same left is blaming the boogey white man for them so they can try and dress themselves up as the solution, it’s lunacy. We need to take some personal responsibility

Excuse me? I lost my job because of Covid. Don’t presume to lecture me on the effects of the shutdown.

What’s more I come from a state that saw thousands of deaths from it. People in my town died because of it.

Then how on earth could you support these protests that obviously disregard human life in favour of a leftist ideology that has caused more division that it’s trying to heal?

The coronavirus pandemic sure isn’t over in New York City. We’re first beginning phase one of reopening on Monday, and phase two is projected in early July, unless of course there is a resurgence of the virus. Baby steps here.

I’ve heard, what really worries about especially for religious people in the US is when you have the mayor of NYC claim these protests were essential while religious services and businesses were not and that if Church’s broke lock-down rules they could be shut down permanently. Effectively in the west and i’m noticing this in a few nations we have political leaders who are jumping on to issues that are popular and because religion is becoming less popular their hatred and persecution towards it will become more apparent as they will be able to get away with it.

I’ve noticed over the last couple of years, if you don’t peddle the leftist narrative then you are called racist, sexist, facist without even engaging in dialogue, your not allowed to disagree with them and they will seek to ruin your life if you do in the name of claiming that you are a bigot for not accepting their naturalist world-view. Even many prominent atheists are speaking out at this dangerous and intolerant so called liberalism driven by viral videos and celebrity endorsement

I recall much the same treatment from right wingers I’ve encountered, except for them the names were anti-American, communist, anti-Christian, socialist, redistributionist, anti-Semite, etc.

I’m not claiming right wingers are any better. As Catholics that whole right wing, left wing stuff shouldn’t concern us. I’m just pointing out that the left wing today especially in the US have a deeply worrying agenda especially as it’s cheerleaders sympathize with rioting and looting, try and profit off by creating more division to take eyes away from themselves and on top of that have imposed some of the tightest lock-down laws on businesses and religious institutions which for some reason they then claim leftists are exempt from because the economy and religion doesn’t matter as much as these protests.

To deny peaceful protest would put any mayor in a bind, particularly the Mayor of a liberal town such as NYC. De Blasio has to make an effort to live up to his leftist, progressive image. As seen in some of my other posts, I am not a fan of his, but I do understand his predicament in this matter.

Yes, I agree that liberals can be quite intolerant. But I would imagine it is the same in conservative regions, in which if you express leftist views not in keeping with the culture, you are likewise shunned.

But to deny businesses and religious institutions the freedom operate doesn’t put him in a predicament while claiming that the protests were just and even essential? Millions of people pushed into poverty, religious people locked out of Church’s but hey all blacks matter right? Cmon one can easily see this for what it is, virtue signalling by a politician to distract blame from his failures by dressing it up as racism while continuing to obliterate the economy and deny others including religious people the same freedom

Then de Blasio needs a lot more virtue signaling because most New Yorkers have not been distracted from his failures.

With regard to religious institutions, we have in NYC mainly Catholic churches, mainline Protestant churches, synagogues, and mosques. We don’t have many Evangelical churches. Many of the religious institutions in NYC are themselves liberal-leaning and have their own restrictive rules for attendance to combat the coronavirus. It’s really not such an imposition for most churches or their congregations here. I suspect that some, such as certain Orthodox Jewish synagogues, have defied the city and state order without suffering repercussions. I know a couple of all-kosher supermarkets that operate without requiring masks or social distancing in their stores.

Retail businesses, and in particular restaurants, are another matter. Some will no doubt never recover even if they do reopen (without maximum capacity).

Then why focus so much attention on left wing agitation?

Catholic social teaching and the Church itself of course transcends left and right. As such we don’t need to close our eyes to truth discovered by either side.

Because right now with recent events it’s the left wing going on the offensive in the aim of it’s agenda. An offensive that is creating division, hatred and anarchy while suppressing economic and religious freedom. Honestly it’s looks like the early stages typical of Marxist revolutions.

As for your point on Catholic social teaching, i agree. Catholic social teaching is both critical of consumer based Capitalism and Communism and instead advocates a third way

True. But whereas this sort of conservative bad behavior is relegated to a few backwoods and not endorsed by any major party, the leftwing version is endorsed by major media outlets and by a major party. It is therefore a much more serious problem.
