Zia is someone I have never seen lash out on this forum.
Eastern usage has always been for the priest to commemorate his bishop, the bishop the metropolitan, the metropolitan his patriarchs, and the patriarchs one another. My Church, GOA, is under the Ecumenical Patriarchate. However, we only pray for our local Bishop (in a hierarchical Divine Liturgy it’s a bit different). Actually, I’m know of a Melkite Greek Catholic Church and a Romanian Greek Catholic monastery that only prays for their Bishop and does not mention the Pope, which is their right by the way. They do not need to mention him and they still are Catholic.
And that’s just the civil rulers! Both Rome and Constantinople do not have history of “playing nice” with one another.
LolYour position’s refuted and now you’re lashing out like when a Protestant has been refuted on Sola Fide.
As if this is some sort of competition? Good grief. The conversation was a good one and you guys almost had me, I’ll admit.
I had the same reaction as @Isaac14.Or maybe you’re just interpreting it that way…
If it were possible to refute anyone in the Orthodox-Catholic argument, someone would have done it long ago and we’d all have been either Catholic or Orthodox.Declaring one’s opponent “refuted”
The most true words in this entire thread! If it were possible to refute anyone in the Orthodox-Catholic argument, someone would have done it long ago and we’d all have been either Catholic or Orthodox.
Had you? My intent is not to change the minds of RCs as per the Balamand statement. Have you read it?The conversation was a good one and you guys almost had me, I’ll admit.
I didn’t know I was on a thread with Steve Ray? Sorry, but I know the RC position. I learned it all from Catholic Answers forum, radio and tracts when I was a young RC having to defend the RC position from Protestants. Hope that doesn’t burst your bubble?!?! You’re a small fish and a very, very large pond my young Padawan, surrounded by very knowledgeable RC and EO theologians. And on this forum, knowledgeable RC, EC and EO.I think what happened is that I presented an understanding that took your position apart and you got really frustrated and didn’t know how to refute me.
I’m good. Read some of my posts on this thread and others, I can be overly zealous at times. Please calm down. I’m sorry to have upset you. My reflexes from apologetics with Protestants took hold. Again, I’m sorry.
:+1:t3:You’re knowledgeable and I respect you and the Eastern perspective.
I’m honestly trying to do my part ecumenically with love for you guys and OUR Church.
