Is there a religious teacher that made a difference in your life?

There have been several throughout my life. In my early years I was very close to two of my great grandmothers. My great grandmother Sweetie on my father’s side of the family was a devout Catholic and spent every day of her last 10 years going to hospitals and rocking terminally ill babies. When she finished she would walk the streets of Galveston Texas comforting and praying with anyone that looked sad or troubled.

My great grandmother Mimi on my mom’s side was the same way. She’d go up to strangers, hug them and within minutes of meeting them she’d be praying for them. She was always finding people to help. I learned compassion and self sacrifice from both of them and recently after coming back to the faith I’ve come to recognise the Christ like love they both showed.

Over the past year I’ve found a few pastors, priests and teachers that have made a real difference in my life. The pastor from my parent’s church helped me considerably right after I left paganism. I’ve also learned a lot from pastor Bob Beeman, Fr. Mike Schmitz and Steve Ray all from YouTube and two local priests Fr. Tom Elliot and Fr. Rick Hobbs. They are all fantastic teachers and Fr. Tom and Fr. Rick are great counselors and have been a huge support.

I didn’t say her actions made me one even that she was good, I wouldn’t say it was even an influence or a reason, but it maybe increased a bit my interest in the religious debates at her class, so the reply was an answer to the original post regarding a religious character.
