the terms vows of celibacy and vows of continence do not exist, we speak of vows of chastity to designate the practice of a perpetual continence with a view to God, ordinarily this continence is done in the celibacy state, but we can exceptionally practice it in the marriage (like Mary and Joseph).Did you mean a vow of celibacy?
- A vow of chastity would mean the person is making a vow to avoid sexual sin (not avoid sex if married).
- A vow of celibacy would mean the person is making a vow not to get married.
- A vow of continence would mean that the person is making a vow never to have sexual relations.
A vow is a promise to God to do a better thing. Thus one can not make a vow to practice the sexual act in the marriage, because when one has a legal sexual activity in the marriage, one practices the chastity in its lowest degree, whereas the vows concern the practice of a virtue in its highest degree
