Is there a representative from each Eastern Church on this forum?

Whenever I come to the Eastern Catholicism forum I always see the same set of users answering questions from us curious Latiners, almost like we have an Eastern Catholic Team on here šŸ˜› and it seems like we have at least one member from each church.

So far, I have yet to see somone representing the Armenian Catholics here. šŸ˜‰

There was one Chaldean Catholic that I know of, who was on here about a year ago.

And while I have been attending a Maronite parish for four years now and a Ruthenian Byzantine community for three, I consider myself a Byzantinized-Roman. šŸ˜‰

At one time we had an Armenian (well, he was ethnically Armenian), though I haven’t seen him around for quite a while now. I don’t think I’ve ever encountered an Ethiopian. The rest are, I believe, represented.

I;ve encountered two Armenian Catholic posters here. I remember because when one of them first popped up, I got really excited, started thinking about the other Armenian Catholic poster, and sent him a welcome PM. But that was at least two years ago.

The ethnic Armenian that was referred to by brother Malphono was brother Ghosty, who was Latin Catholic and eventually joined the Melkite Church.

An Ethiopian Eastern Christian (either Catholic or Orthodox) would be interesting - I’d like to hear why they have more books of Scripture and canonized Pontius Pilate.

As for other Eastern churches, a lot of them - save for Maronites, Ruthenians and Syro-Malabar, IIRC, are very small, without representation in the Diaspora. (that is to say, immigrant communities around the world.)

The Ukrainian GCC is very well represented in the diaspora. As is the Chaldean Church and the Syro-Malankara Church, not to mention to the Syriac CC.

I agree with this. Does anyone know if there’s ever been an Ethiopian poster?

I’ve never seen one, though there are a few Tewahedo (Orthodox) on other boards that are frequented by people who also use this board (not me), so conceivably they could ask those questions and ferry the answers back, if for some reason you are uncomfortable with posting on non-Catholic messageboards (and I certainly know better than to advertise for them here, either way, but they’re out there if you’re really curious, as are many resources about the EOTC in general which could probably provide some kind of answer to most questions).

I’ve never seen an Italo-Albanian here…do they count? They’re Byzantine, after all.

Any regular Syro Malankara and Malabar posters on these forums? I have a keen interest in the churches of India.

Yes, and they’re very versed in their Churches’ traditions. Thomas48 is Syro-Malabar and SyroMalankara is… well :p.

I don’t think I have seen an Italo-Albanian. They certainly should count, being Byzantine as you say. That being said, while their patrimony is ā€œEasternā€, they must be the only ā€œEastern Catholicā€ Church that is native to the ā€œWestā€.

As an aside, does anyone know if the Italo-Albanians ordain married men to the priesthood? I ask considering the hostility the Italian conference of bishops has shown towards married Eastern priests ministering in their territory.

Nor have I seen one here. šŸ˜‰

I could be hallucinating, but seem to recall that we had an Italo-Greek from Las Vegas for a while a couple years back. The UserID totally escapes me though. :o

The Italo Albanians do have married priests. They had trouble finding a new Bishop because their priests were married. The Italo Albanians absorbed the remaining Italo Greeks who were decimated when the Normans occupied Sicily and Southern Italy. Pope John Paul II restored the Italo Greek Church in the United States.
