Is there a rule about secular music sung at Mass?

Today, in keeping with Dr. Martin Luther King’s message (?) the childrens’ choir sung the secular hit from a few years ago, “We Are The World” as well as “Day by Day” (from Godspell) Are there ANY restrictions as far as what is considered liturgically incorrect at this point in time? When I was in my teens, I recall singing some John Denver tunes! Has there been any ruling about this?
