I was wondering if there is going to be a Papal TLM upon the implement of the Motu Proprio in September, and if so does anyone know the specific date of the Mass?
I’ve heard some rumours that His Holiness may celebrate the Traditional Mass publically at some stage, but I very much doubt it would be in September.I was wondering if there is going to be a Papal TLM upon the implement of the Motu Proprio in September, and if so does anyone know the specific date of the Mass?
Let’s pray it happens.I’ve heard some rumours that His Holiness may celebrate the Traditional Mass publically at some stage, but I very much doubt it would be in September.
If He’s going to do it properly and in the most Solemn form, it would require, the Sedia Gestatoria (portable throne), the Tiara, silver trumpets (for a good blast at the elevations) and other such amazing and wonderful things. I would definitely go. The last such Mass was the Coronation of Pope Paul VI in 1963.
While I always thought a Solemn Papal Mass would be the best way to introduce the MP, I also think Benedict wouldn’t do such a thing until everyone else was good and ready. He’s slowly reintroducing elements of papal honor and distinctiveness, but some things would be really hard to take up again of one’s own accord without giving the appearance of pride. If he were to reinstate the sedia gestatoria and tiara, for instance, far more people would misunderstand the move as a show of power and authority rather than a restoration of the dignity of the papal office. If he does celebrate the TLM publicly, he’ll most likely start with a simple solemn Mass without pontificating.I was wondering if there is going to be a Papal TLM upon the implement of the Motu Proprio in September, and if so does anyone know the specific date of the Mass?
He could say it as the Successor to Peter w/o all the ostentatious medieval trappings. If he did it, I would expect that he would say it the same way it was said in any diocese or archdiocese before 1965. It’s not about him. Not about the return of the medieval paraphenalia of the papacy. I would expect him to say Mass the same way I heard it when I was a child. No more. No less.I’ve heard some rumours that His Holiness may celebrate the Traditional Mass publically at some stage, but I very much doubt it would be in September.

But… I’m not optimisitc. It would take an enormous amount of planning, and the liberals/progressives/whatever you want to call them, would try their very best to prevent it.
The papal office has not lost its dignity! If he were to reinstate the sedia gestatoria and tiara, for instance, far more people would misunderstand the move as a show of power and authority rather than a restoration of the dignity of the papal office.
Why would he? He is the Pope after all.being the supreme liturgist of the Church, couldn’t the pope just forgo stuff like the seda gastoria and the tiara? he is the pope after all.
No, because the Roman Pontiff himself is bound by the liturgical rubrics of the Missale Romanum 1962 edition. No one, not even the Pope is allowed to forgo even the slightest rubric in the Missal. The Missale Romanum 1962 is very strict as per rubrics.being the supreme liturgist of the Church, couldn’t the pope just forgo stuff like the seda gastoria and the tiara? he is the pope after all.
There are no plans for the Pope to celebrate a public TLM in September. The schedule has already came out as per the liturgical celebrations.I was wondering if there is going to be a Papal TLM upon the implement of the Motu Proprio in September, and if so does anyone know the specific date of the Mass?
I think that our guys in Rome still could handle a Papal TLM. It’s only been like what, 40 years MAX since we’ve had one.I would say that you will see him celebrate it one day in the near future as an example for the other Bishops to follow, but it will take a heck of a lot of planning and involvement with the FSSP- because I am pretty sure Rome has forgotten tradition- and in the words of Marcel Lefebvre, “They will one day come to us to recall tradition.”

I like those “ostentatious medieval trappings” thank you very much. :yup: :yup: :yup:He could say it as the Successor to Peter w/o all the ostentatious medieval trappings. He can,I think, for the Papal Mass since it is not in the Missal but laid out in the Caeremoniale Romanum. He could just celebrate a regular Pontifical High Mass, if he so elected. As it was, on the rare occasions when the Pope formerly did celebrate the Mass, the Solemn Papal Mass form was not always observed. No, because the Roman Pontiff himself is bound by the liturgical rubrics of the Missale Romanum 1962 edition. That is true. I think also the Pope would like people to see the TLM as it truely is- the liturgical heritage- rather than as popular lore portrays it- the step of a retrogressive mediaevalist who only wants to bring back the Dark Ages. Which the sedia and tiara would confirm in the minds of many. He’s slowly reintroducing elements of papal honor and distinctiveness, but some things would be really hard to take up again of one’s own accord without giving the appearance of pride. Interestingly enough, a rumor has just come out saying the Pope will celebrate the Latin Mass on the first Sunday of Advent: angelqueen.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=15711I was wondering if there is going to be a Papal TLM upon the implement of the Motu Proprio in September, and if so does anyone know the specific date of the Mass?
I doubt that Pontiff would choose to violate a rubric; however, as Supreme Legislator he certainly has the right to do so.No, because the Roman Pontiff himself is bound by the liturgical rubrics of the Missale Romanum 1962 edition. I do not understand. Please explain. And even for the rubrics of the Missal themselves, not all of them always are observed. Some are directive, some are prescriptive. I mean, at how many Solemn High Masses offered nowdays is the rubric of the Missal on the reading of the Gospel strictly observed?
