Is there a secular argument against civil homosexual marriage?

It is not a religious argument. Sex is literally for procreation. It feels pleasurable so that humans do it more.
I thought it worth pointing out that there are species for which sex is anything but pleasurable. For some it is painful, with the barbs and all. For some it is fatal. For some it means loosing ones self (see angular fish mating).

But they are are still driven to do it.

Are you saying that allowing gay people to get married encourages homosexuality?
? Never wrote anything like that.
Excuse the double negative, but not allowing gay people to marry doesn’t prevent them not having children.
? What’s your point?
You seem to be saying (no, you actually are saying) that you want to stop gay people getting married because they can’t have children.
Wrote exactly the opposite.
I did not write “forbid”; rather not reward SSM.

You want the state to ‘not reward’ ssm. Can you explain what that might entail?

You are absolutely dead wrong in that aspect. Sex is for procreation first and foremost for practically every creature on this planet and thats a biological point of view. We humans are the only species that make it more than just procreation. God gave us that ability to enjoy intimate love with a partner of the opposite sex. Society perverted the intimacy part of sex.

While I agree that sex is for procreation, that isn’t it’s only function. Many of the greater apes use it for pleasure, bonding, conflict resolution, etc.

Stating that it is its primary function is stretching biology beyond what it can say. Sex has functions beyond just procreation.

And then you bring in religion…just sayin…

That is not stretching Biology. Sex is for procreation, that is the function of it. Sex has no function other than procreation. The pleasure for example, is to keep the species wanting to procreate. Humans especially since women do not show physical signs when they are fertile. This is not an argument you can win because it simply is not true.

I don’t really have a comment to make. I just wanted that statement to sit there in isolation so we could all ruminate on it. I for one didn’t realise that all that time in my youth that I spent chasing girls had no other purpose than procreation.

And my wife cannot get pregnant so all that time we have spent making whoopee (ahem) has been a complete waste of time. I’ll get out a jigsaw next time.
