Is there a spiritual meaning behind Peter James and John falling asleep/sleeping in The Garden of Gethsemane?

D-R Bible Haydock Commentary:

Ver. 37. You who were ready to die for me, cannot watch with me! We are here taught a great duty of a Christian life, and that is, to beg of God, that he would give us strength to observe and follow the motions and inspirations of his Holy Spirit, and never to resist the calls of heaven.

Agree with @thistle . But iirc, I read somewhere that it also refers to us falling asleep in the Christian life,ie not keeping watch over ourselves and therefore sinning. Similar to how sinful habits can blind one to sinning, deaden the conscience to such an extent that we no longer recognize we are sinning.

Jesus said, the spirit is willing but the flesh is weak.
The falling asleep is indicating how people mean well - they go to the garden with Jesus - but their weak human nature causes their efforts to fail - they fall asleep repeatedly instead of staying awake like Jesus to watch and pray.
As said above, it’s an analogy for human weakness causing people to fall into sin without planning to do so.
