Is there absolutely any historical evidence that the Book of Mormon is true?

I’m just curious. The Bibles cities exist many to this day. Archeology backs it up. Has any evidence ever come to light to support the BOM or is it completely faith? Id like the (name removed by moderator)ut of any Mormons as well if any are on here…

There is not, nor will there ever be, evidence of ancient Jewish culture found in the Americas. The Mormon “archeologists” that cite otherwise require an ENORMOUS suspension of disbelief. Even so, they obviously have a “dog in the fight”, so they won’t be impartial in the presentation of their findings - a touchstone of scientific methodology.

When an atheist archeologist discovers Jewish cultural remnants in the Americas, then we may need to consider their heretical claims.

Mormonism was completely fabricated by Joseph Smith. He didn’t translate the Book of Mormon from the Golden Tablets. He lost them (seriously, just ask them). Instead, he had to use “seer stones” which he placed in a hat, stuck his face in said hat, and received the true word of “god”. It got hairy when other Mormons claimed to have other seer stones in disputes over who was able to take a young girl as their concubine. “My stone said she was mine!” “No, MY stone said she was mine”.

If they weren’t awarded a “survivor’s complex” due to the persecution the U.S. government sanctioned toward them, they would have gone the route of other hack Christian denominations that popped up around the same time; which is obscurity (Church of Christ of Science, Seventh Day Adventists, Jehovah’s Witnesses, the list goes on).

Mormonism is literally thin air. Completely made-up. If Joseph Smith eventually came to believe the nonsense he was spouting, it was only because of confirmation bias. “Other people are really agreeing with what I say! There must actually be something to it!”

Total Nonsense.

I do not understand your argument that these other groups are somehow in obscurity, and the LDS/Mormons are not. Outside of Utah, the LDS are smaller than some of the others.

Evidence? Sure. Convincing or conclusive evidence? Nope.

Here’s a halfway decent list of what we’ve got: jefflindsay.com/BMEvidences.shtml

Again, convincing? Conclusive? Not particularly. But this stuff fits the dictionary definition of the word “evidence”.

Well, for starters it wasn’t an argument, but a statement. And one that could be considered Reasonable - even though you’re right, Mormons are kind of obscure on a global scale now that I check the stats. They must be bigger in my mind 🙂

18 million Adventists
15 million Mormons
8 million JWs
Maybe 100 thousand C.C. Scientist

So I guess it’s what one means by “obscure”. Compare to:

1.2 billion Catholics
300 million Orthodox
80 million Anglicans

And then there are 40 million Baptists and 250 million Pentecostals, but it’s hard to lump all those folks together because the only thing many have in common is the label. They commonly quarrel between them and consider many churches within the same sect to be “unbiblical”.

I see your point.

When you say Adventist are you referring to Seventh Day Adventism?

Seventh Day Adventists are just the (easily) largest group. So much so that “Adventist” and “Seventh Day Adventist” is virtually interchangeable. I think ALL other Adventists MIGHT total a few hundred thousand.

So for a more direct answer, “sure”.

I used to be LDS. The major proof for me was the witness statements. Then I learned that there is no witness statement (either it was lost or never existed). The BOM still proved to be a valuable book for me because of its insights into the world of religion.

I don’t think there is because you have to remember things like Joseph Smith was not a naturalist so the fact that honeybees are mentioned in the Book of Mormon seems kind of weird to me because honeybees would not have existed in the Americas at the time but these things supposably took place. I have noticed that one thing some Mormons will do is go try and say that they were talking about something else in the Book of Mormon in that was the closest or proximate word that doesn’t work because the Book of Mormon is supposed to be the most perfect book ever written.

Verily. You also have a similar problem with the mention of horses in the Book of Mormon. The Spanish wouldn’t bring them to the new world for hundred of years after…

Of course, when you’re making up a total fabrication like the Book of Mormon, you can only write what you know…

There isn’t any evidence nor can there ever be as the BoM is a total work of fiction.

Like any work of fiction, it uses details drawn from history. However, the War of 1812 was recent history at the time.

Two podcasts that help understand Mormons. My Book of Mormon with David Michael and Naked Mormonism. I highly suggest a listen.

When you say “support the Book of Mormon,” what do you mean? Support is what way?

Curious as to your source (not questioning the numbers just surprised by them), I didn’t realize the JW and CS were that small. That would mean the JW are on the decline?

And I would have guessed that the Mormons were a larger group than the Adventists.

Actually, The JW are an offshoot of the Adventists.

Uncle “Google” and his limitless “truth”.

So take 'em with a grain of salt. They may not be surgically precise; more like “shotgun” precise.
