Is there any Church Dogma on promises?

Sometimes I feel like I make promises to God that I don’t really want to. The main one is to become a priest when I get older. I love The Church, but I just don’t feel like I’m called to be a priest, but sometimes when I pray I feel like I promised I would. I made some guidelines for making promises such as:in Prayer only, and the only Prayer in the Prayer; but emotionally they don’t always help. Also, was it wrong to make my own guidelines as far as making promises? Was it wrong to ask this thread question?

You suffer from scrupulosity. These are compulsive thoughts you have, not true promises you are making.

And yes, the Church does have some canons on solemn vows.

You cannot make these on accident. You cannot make these simply by thinking them.

Listen, there are two things you should know about sin. First, you can’t commit a mortal sin unless you are AWARE of having committed it. Mortal sin is the ONLY kind of sin that can cost you your salvation if unrepented. Second, venial sins are ALREADY forgiven by Jesus’ sacrifice. They DON’T need to be confessed to a priest. You DON’T have to even remember what they are. You DON’T have to worry about venial sin!

Being too concerned about sin (scrupulosity) is harmful to your spiritual growth. The Lord doesn’t want you to be so concerned about sin that it stunts your Christian life… you can’t concentrate on others and their needs if you spend so much time looking only at yourself, wondering if you’ve done some teeny little sin somewhere. For instance, you asked, “Was it wrong to ask this thread question?” Please show me where in Sacred Scripture, Sacred Tradition or Magisterial Church teaching that asking a simple question on an online forum is a sin.
