Is there any point?

My church has daily mass which I really like to attend. My problem is that I’m in and out of mortal sin at least three times a month.

With confession available only before the weekend masses, is there any point going to daily mass or even praying when I’m in this state?

Forgive me if it sounds like I’m making light of this situation, but sadly, it’s my reality right now.

You can certainly attend daily Mass in a state of mortal sin. The graces you receive from just attending and the habits of mind you form will certainly help you stay out of sin. What you should not do is receive Holy Communion in a state of mortal sin. But attending Mass and saying the prayers will only help you.

Yes, there is a point to attend Mass and continue to pray.
David in his mortal sin wrote many Psalms as his prayers.
Mass is the ultimate prayer. Attending Mass brings you grace.
When you can receive the Eucharist, the Holy Communion will strengthen you and help you not fall into mortal sin. When you cannot receive the Eucharist, the longing for receiving may help you avoid mortal sin next time. By all means, keep on praying and keep on attending Mass. And not only pray, but pray harder.

If you are in mortal sin, this is serious business as you know. If you ask to have confession on an odd day of the week, the priest(s) of your area should make themselves available.

I don’t know what kind of sin you’re struggling with, but depending on your struggles, inclinations, and circumstances the sin you’re wrestling with may not be grave. However, I’m in no way suggesting you should take this lightly; all sin is serious.

For a sin to be mortal:

Must be grave/serious
Must have full consent of the will
Must have full knowledge

The Lord is pleased that you are taking this seriously! If you go to Mass, but are not able to receive, that’s okay. Simply being there will help you.

Finally, remember all things are possible with God. Position yourself to receive grace and to avoid temptation. There has been sin in my own life I thought I could never defeat. This went on for years. Do not give up hope. When you fall, get back up again! You can do all things through Christ and be victorious!

Yes, it is even more important to go to mass and pray unceasingly when you are in the state you are in. Sin is serious and mortal sin very much so.

Please try to go to confession often so you can receive the Eucharist which will help you to stay away from serious sin.

I find praying the Rosary to be very helpful in the battle against sin, and will bring you closer to God, as it is the meditation of the gospels of our Lord. You will find it well worth your time.

…so, yes, Jesus wants you to be with Him. Going to daily mass is really what He wants you to do - it is a great blessing for you to be able to attend daily mass. In some countries, people have to go to mass in secret because their government is giving them hard time.

Go to Mass. Make an appt for confession after Mass. Don’t despair.
