Is there any purpose to this earth and our being here?

What do you think? What does your religion think?
we were created to love so much in this life that we suffer, suffer for our enemies. In this way, we love to a greater degree than if we had never fallen.

I can tell you one thing for sure, we aren’t here to get a body, “live worthily” and then progress to being Gods ourselves. 😉

Purpose? as in philosophical purpose? or as in cause and effect?

Something caused us to be here.A set of circumstances arose that led to our being here now. As far as philosophical purpose? I think philosophy is a function of a human mind to meet human needs.

That which brought us forth is “beyond” philosophy, it does not have our human needs or mind, so if it has a purpose for us, an agenda, I don’t know what it is. It is beyond me.

Philosophies help humans order their behavior, they act as motivators to us in our mortal, limited, relatively powerless state of being, but something that is not mortal, limited or powerless, does not have need for philosophies.

I need a reason to get out of bed in the morning…the universe does not.

I am a natural pantheist.

Life’s ‘purpose’ varies, according to a given faith.

In some sense, the meaning [purpose] may well be:
“We’re here becaue we’re here - because we’re here.”

For some reason, I think the 'buddha," the 'enlightened one,"
might well have understood the above view as most practical.

I think that religion is expressive of the following functions:

-provides a matrix for worhipping deity [a *cultus]
-defines life’s purpose
-defines that which constitutes moral behavior
-addresses end of life concerns
-assigns meaning to human suffering

Ancillary function:
-provides a structual element - a template of sorts,
by which life’s phenomena may be understood and classified.

From a purely biological view, we are here to pass on our genes - that is, to reproduce.

But if that is all, then why is there beauty? Why do we appreciate it? Why are there so many wonders in the earth? Why do we love each other? Why is there ugliness and sadness?

God answers those questions. And the closer I am to God, the more answers I get.
I have come to the conclusion that the reason we exist is because a loving God made it so, and that we line ourselves up with all the beauty around us when we worship Him.

In other words - “To know, love and serve the Lord, and to be happy with Him for all eternity.”
