Is there any significance about the New Adam being produced from the body of the New Eve

In Genesis God produced Eve from Adams body. In the New Testament God does it in reverse. God produced the New Adam (Jesus) from the body of the New Eve (Mary).

Does anybody know if there is a significance to this?
 
This Scripture passage doesn’t give the significance of Jesus being produced from Mary’s body, but it can be seen as an OT prophecy of it:

Jeremiah 31:22 “…For the Lord hath created a new thing upon the earth: A WOMAN SHALL COMPASS A MAN.” (Douay)

The NAB adds the words “with devotion”, but makes note in their footnotes that they are not contained in the Hebrew. Also included in their footnotes:
(c) St. Jerome in his commentary on this verse understood it of Mary’s virginal conception of Christ. “The Lord has created a new thing on earth; without seed of man, without carnal union and conception, ‘a woman will encompass a man’ within her womb–One who, though He will later appear to advance in wisdom and age through the stages of infancy and childhood, yet, while confined for the usual number of months in His mother’s womb, will already be perfect man.” (Underlining mine)

What translation is that? Not in any of my translations. Checked the Hebrew on my software and it didn’t give anything like “court” in the definition for the Hebrew word.

You can check the Jewish Publication Society, which has the following translation:

20 Set thee up waymarks, make thee guide-posts; set thy heart toward the high-way, even the way by which thou wentest; return, O virgin of Israel, return to these thy cities. 21 How long wilt thou turn away coyly, O thou backsliding daughter? For the LORD hath created a new thing in the earth: a woman shall court a man.

This translation is from Chabad’s website. I assume they did their own translation because I didn’t see any reference to the source: 21. How long will you hide, O backsliding daughter? For the Lord has created something new on the earth, a woman shall go after a man. I’ll find my Rashi commentary and Judaica Press translation and see what they have to say as well. What software are you using?

The software is called “Bible Windows” (Version 4.5) put out by Silver Mountain Software. In addition to several English versions (AV, RSV, NRSV) it has the German AV-Lut, Latin, Septuagint, Analytical Greek New Testament, and the Hebrew Old Testament (BHS). Their are dictionaries for the Greek and the Hebrew. The Hebrew Dictionary is called “Simple Electronic Hebrew Glossary” copyright 1992 Silver Mountain Software. Manual says the following references were used by the author - “A Concise Hebrew and Aramaic Lexicon of the OT” by W.L.Holladay; “A Hebrew and English Lexicon of the OT” by Brown-Driver-Briggs; and “The Complete Hebrew English Dictionary” by R. Alcalay. (Purchased it in a Lutheran seminary bookstore)

By the way, I have absolutely no knowledge of Hebrew. Fortunately the software not only transliterates the Hebrew characters, but also provides an English interlinear feature.

Am looking forward to checking our the link you supplied. Are there Jewish commentaries on the Old Testament similar to the Christian ones? By that I mean, where the commentary covers a whole book of the Bible, such that you can go to it, look up a certain verse and check the commentary? Are there any on line?

Why would a woman courting a man be “new on the earth?”

PS. the word used is “sabab” - short definition “surround or border” according to the Strong’s Hebrew dictionary that comes with the software I’m using (E-sword) www.e-sword.net.
 
I have a program by Judaica Press called the JP Tanach with Commentary by Rashi. I’ll use the verse we’re discussing as an example:

21 How long will you hide, O backsliding daughter? For the Lord has created something new on the earth, a woman shall go after a man.

Rashi Commentary:

21 will you hide will you hide from Me, that you are ashamed to return to Me because of your way? Behold, something new has been created on earth, that a woman shall go after a man to seek him that he should marry her. This is an expression of “and I will go around [gives Hebrew here] in the city; I will seek, etc.” (Song 3:2). And in the name of Rabbi Judah the Preacher I heard: A woman shall turn around to become a man. I gave you like a daughter, who receives a tenth of the property of her father, seven nations out of seventy. Ultimately, you shall take everything like a son, a male, who inherits everything.

Avelino, I believe it is because everything is reversed by the second Adam. If you look throughout scripture it is always the “second Son” who is chosen for something or the other.
