Is there any special reason why Christ was crucified during the passover?

Was it just coincidence that Christ was crucified during the passover, or is there some special significance between the crucifixion and the timing of it?

In Exodus in the OT we have the story of the Paschal (Passover) lamb. That is, the sacrificial victim whose blood, smeared on their doorposts as a sign, saved the people of Israel from physical death. By causing the Angel of Death to ‘pass over’ their houses. And also acted, in doing this, to release them from the bondage of physical slavery by securing their release from Egypt.

Passover, of course, is the feast celebrating those very events, at which the lamb itself was eaten along with the other food.

In the same way the blood of Christ, the true Passover lamb, with whose blood WE are sealed, saves US from physical AND spiritual death and delivers US from the bondage and slavery of sin. It’s INCREDIBLY significant that He died at Passover!

I am well aware of what you have posted (above). Is there some ‘other’ reason? 🙂

And that’s why you asked if it was just coincidence huh? Because you already knew full well it wasn’t? Pull the other one.

Jesus died on Passover so He could pass over to the Father, for His soul descended into hell (limbo) to preach the good news, and He led the righteous souls into Heaven, which He had reopened for mankind by His death, and so God has made Him a Way to Heaven: He is the Gate through which the sheep must pass to the Father.

It is written, that there are those that say they are jews, but are not. Is it possible that the converse is also true (ie. There are those that believe that they are gentiles, but are actually jews/Israelites.)?

We know that there are ‘missing’ tribes of Israel. We also know, that in the ens, all Israel shall be saved. Is it possible, that for the ‘grafting-in’ of these lost tribes to take place, that they not only have to become Christians, but must also obey God’s command to celebrate the passover on an annual basis? By celebrating the death and resurrection of Christ during the passover, can it (perhaps) also be said, that they are also celebrating the ‘passover’ itself, also? Just a thought. 🙂

We celebrate Christ’s death and resurrection EVERY Sunday in our worship and honouring of the day, not just one Easter.

In that sense we’re going above and beyond the command. 🤷

I’m not trying to be funny. In the case of the gentiles, the timing of the crucifixion is ‘symbolic’. If what I posted is true, it would not be so, for the Israelites that are not aware that they are in fact Israelites. 🙂

I’m not sure what you are trying to get at from this thread. You have asked what other reason there may have been for Jesus to have been crucified on the Passover and when given an answer you then try to hijack your own thread to go on another line of thinking.

If you truly want to know WHY Christ died and was raised again at the specific time he did you must understand the significance of the Passover celebration and all the other Ceremonial observances commanded by God to the nation of Isreal. Each of these in a forshadowing of Christ and in Christ each observance was fulfilled in his birth, life, death and resurrection. Study these and you will gain further understanding. Oh, yeah, besides, the prophets of GOD 👍 said so.

I’m sorry if my logic has totally escaped you. 🙂

Ah, the old Ten Tribes went to Viet Nam - Danang, DienBien Phu, Don Duong argument.

Anyone that believes that the other tribes of Israel (ie. ‘lost tribes’) have disappeared from this earth, do not believe God’s Word. If they (their descendants) were gone, then God’s Word is a lie (ALL ISRAEL SHALL BE SAVED). 🙂

Hey, I’m Jewish and can spot a ‘Christian Identity’ theme when I see it.

Firstly, the tribes your are pointing out were absorbed within the cultures of many of the surrounding nations. This is because MOST of them decided not to return to Isreal and Judea after being told they could leave Babylon and return. They decided to stay because now they had “THE GOOD” life.

Secondly, Who is to say that, if these tribes survived without poluting their lineage with pagan tribes, at least a few believed in the teaching of the Apostles and decided to accept Christ as their Messah. Their idendity would then have been absorbed into the Christian faith along with the Gentiles, Romans, Greeks, Egyptians, Ethiopians, etc, etc, etc.

And lastly, The tribes are not lost, their bloodlines, in some form or other, still exist. God knows who they are, but believe the scriptures when Jesus says that the Tree would be pruned of the rotten branches, but said branches can also be grafted back in.

**Yes, All Israel shall be saved. But what about those Israelis who had become Budhists and christians, and later from christians they became Muslims? They are now residing in remote area away from Judae, how they will be gathered? and saved?

I have not understood your post about the gentiles etc. Must have been meaningful post. My reply to the topic is simple, as follows:

Jesus was a Jew and a Rabbi. The other Jewish leaders were afraid of his teaching and they wanted him killed by crucifixion. Even though his crime was not calling for crucifixion. The right punishment (For blasphemy) was stoning to death. But the leadership cried hoarse that Jesus should be crucified.

The feast of passover was near. It was some kind of important celebration. So the enemy leadership wanted to celebrate the death of Jesus before festival. What could be better timing than the festival of passover ! They could enjoy it all the more.

But it somehow went in favor of Jesus. It could all be a divine plan to save Jesus. I would not describe the rest of events,**

It’s called ‘Christian Identity’ - basically a belief that the 10 ‘lost’ tribes all made their way off to Europe to become the English, Danes, Germans etc and, eventually, to America. So, all the nice Aryans are, basically, ‘Israel’ and Jews are the naughty, naughty remnants of very, very, naughty people.

Don’t believe me? Just google ‘Christian Identity’.

This theory is rather laughable due to the fact that Israel (10 tribes of the Northern Kingdom) were the first to fall from worshipping God and falling into massive Idolatry and was the first of the whole of the nation to go into captivity. Judah (the Jews), from which the Messiah was to come, took some time to go that route and it was also the Judeans who were the first to return to Jerusalem to rebuild it after they were released from the captivity. So, by all accounts, Isreal, not Judah, were the naughty, naughty people. Case in point should also be made that they were the MAJORITY and Judah was a remnant. Makes Christ statements concerning the Few and the Many more relevent.

Yes, but think about all those Dans - D(a)nmark, Swed(a)n, Danube (hence my joke about places in Viet Nam, by the way).

It’s a case of starting with a premise, that Aryans are Good, Jews are Bad and everybody else is ‘mud people’ and that Jesus must be Good but can’t be Bad (ie Jewish), so there must be an excuse ie he was one of a few of ‘Israel’ lurking about the Holy Land and Aryans are obviously the ‘Chosen People’ (being so Good and Jews being so Bad) so they must be ‘Israel’.

So, you just look for Dans (etc) and invent a history.

Well, actually part of this could be quite true. After all, Aryanism is steeped in Paganism and Isreal (the Ten Tribes) did fall into Pagan worship long before Judah. So to be a chosen people would set the apart, but the question would be, who’s chosen people are they?🤷 (I don’t think Aryans are either Israelites nor “Chosen” by God)
