Is there anything you would sell your soul to the Devil for?

Assuming I believed in the Christian concept of the Devil, definitely not! This is much worse than the million-dollar theft in your other thread. In that situation, I might steal a million dollars (or less) to save the life of a member of my family. But I would never sell my soul.
 
Hypothetically, I might sell my soul to the devil if he would release the souls of some other people.

in the story Faust is old and sick and tired of being old and sick.

I wonder if the answer might depend on circumstances?
 
Never willingly. But I believe that Satan can entice us to sin in a manner where we are not immediately aware of selling our souls. There are many people who sell their souls and are not aware of it.

We are all sinners!
 
No. Since I don’t FULLY understand the nature of my soul, I would have to assume that I don’t fully understand its value. Because of that, I suspect that any estimation of my soul’s worth by me is an underestimation. I would want to hold on to it to see if I could ever learn its true nature and worth or how it “fits” into the larger scheme–if it does at all.

Oh, that is interesting. What happens to a person whose soul was sacrificed for the souls of others. Would you really loose your soul and be without hope for redemption? Or would you be automatically considered truly holy and immediately ascend to heaven?

If anyone has scriptural or other types of insight into these questions, I would love to hear your answers because I really want to know.

It seems to me that selling one’s soul is actually rejecting G-d, so that doing this would not have the effect of releasing other people’s souls. Christian and Jewish martyrs died for the faith, not while denying it.
 
No - no other good I might do would be worth the cost of the loss of my soul.

And Jesus said ‘what profit if a man gain the whole world but lose his soul?’ Our spuls are our most precious possession.

Surely the Devil has neither the power nor the desire to save any souls. So even if we were promised such a thing the Devil could not make good on the promise. Nor would he want to.
 
We all know how well it ended for Faust.

Satan is the master of lies and deceit. Why on Earth would you want to make a deal with him?
 
No. Earthly pleasures don’t last long, and they certainly don’t compare to the time you will spend in hell, which is eternity.

I could probably be tempted in the sense of being offered a good job, or a technical vocation. It wouldn’t be in the sense of Faust making a direct deal with the devil, but a case of serving the wrong master.

Circumstances can play a big part in our choices, and sometimes I think the devil uses circumstances to tempt people away from the hard and narrow path.
