Is there anyway to enforce norms?

I’ve been doing a lot of thinking since the debacle of yesterday’s papal mass, and I’m wondering if there will ever be anyway to get the liturgical abuses eliminated. Since there’s no “liturgical police” to go around making sure that everyone follows the guidelines, there’s no way to get things under control. Even an orthodox bishop can’t be everywhere at all times. It seems like there have been attempts to reform the liturgy since St. Pius X with little effect. And I know (based on personal experience) that there are many people who would be offended if someone were to suggest that they can’t use their culture’s secular or Protestant-based music during mass and would cry “racism” if they were told they needed to use chant or polyphony. I don’t see any end in sight to this mess. I just feel very discouraged.😦

Instead of feeling discouraged…try picking up a hymnal and singing.

the world’s smallest choir singing “My Heart Bleeds For Thee” - in plainsong no less.
 
God enforces the norms - they bind under pain of sin. Beyond that, it’s true that even the best of bishops could have trouble depending upon the crop of priests he has been given. When the cat’s away…
